LAUDERDALE LAKES – The Broward Sheriff's Office is investigating a deputy-involved shooting that has left a suspect dead Wednesday afternoon, officials said.

No deputies were injured in the incident.

The shooting happened just after 1 p.m. in the 3800 block of Northwest 19th Street, in a warehouse district just east of N. State Road 7.

The deputies were working as part of a multi-agency undercover operation involving robberies in the area when they approached the suspect – a man in his 20s - outside the 19th Street Food Stop, sheriff's officials said.

The deputies saw that the suspect had a gun, and more than one fired their weapons, but officials said they did not immediately know exactly how many deputies fired bullets.

Update, of course the family is in disbelief that their loved one could be a criminal

Deputies fatally shot a man suspected in a string of Central Broward robberies after he displayed a gun near them Wednesday afternoon, the Broward Sheriff's Office said.

Dannie Young, who had turned 27 years old Wednesday, was pronounced dead at the shooting site, in the 3800 block of Northwest 19th Street, in a warehouse district just east of North State Road 7, officials said.

The Sheriff's Office and other agencies investigating Young suspected he was involved with several recent robberies in Central Broward, officials said. So they arranged to meet Young outside the 19th Street Food Stop at about 1 p.m., the Sheriff's Office said.

As detectives approached Young, he exited his vehicle armed with a handgun, resulting in detectives fatally shooting him, officials said.

Although Young initially didn't know he was meeting undercover authorities, detectives identified themselves as law enforcement officers before the shooting, officials said.

"It would have been obvious to anyone at the time that those were Broward Sheriff's Office detectives who were approaching," said sheriff's spokesman Jim Leljedal.

Authorities also are investigating how many detectives opened fire. As is procedure, the detectives involved in the shooting will be placed on administrative leave, Leljedal said.

Young had a history of criminal activity including arrests for robbery, drugs and firearms violations, the Sheriff's Office said.

Young's sister-in-law, Cion Jordan, 29, of Fort Lauderdale, was among many of Young's relatives who arrived at the shooting site and waited behind crime-scene tape for hours.

Although she said she didn't witness the shooting, she said didn't believe officials' account of what happened.

"He didn't have a gun, and they're going to try to cover it up," she said. "That's how it is out here in this world."

No honey, the sad fact is, he probably came from a long line of freeloading, worthless rejects that think its okay to steal things instead of working for them, and to do violence upon innocent people.

Plain fact is, your "brother" here came out with a gun, and confronted men with guns, and the natural process of things occurred after that. I guess if you are too dumb, blind or ignorant to understand these things, I can guess as to why you missed an entire life of crime that he lived. Go clean your ear out with a .45 for some perspective.

    Good shooting deputies.

It just keeps getting better, don't it?
Sounds like we're turning this around, with the Oakland suspect dead and this one... stem the tide and turn it around to making the suspects dead and us coming out alive, the way it should be.

I don't care if they all are going to church for 1 week in a row, helping Rwandan orphans fulfill their dreams of playing Carnegie Hall, curing cancer in Antarctica, organizing the community by registering the Dallas Cowboys to vote in Massachusetts, or evading taxes so they can get a Cabinet post... if they want to play the gun game with cops, they get dead. Done. End of story.
