    home a few days now.
was taking a grandson to Dairy Queen on my bagger. he was about to turn 11.
nice day. minimal traffic. almost to my left turn, broadsided by an SUV.
head injury. broken shoulder, left side all ribs broken, collapsed lung, broken eye socket, cheek bone, dislocated ankle, left leg multiple broken bones, shattered.
ICU for about a week, no memory.
five surgeries on my leg, as opposed to an amputation.
grandson just bruises and slight road rash.
the doctors could not tell if I would survive for several days. when they saw me beginning to recover, prediction was 6-8 months before I could rehab and go home.
home in one day short of three months.
not good. three halos and seven pins in my leg. those could be there until next August. no hard core prediction from specialist.
thank God for a 69 year old bikers survival, more importantly a boy only minor injuries.
rode for 54years. might never again.

Glad to have you back in the land of the living.

Someone asked about you a while back and I think we all just held our breath. It was a long holding of the breath... ;)

Clean living I say, secret to longevity. ;)

Glad to hear you’re on the mend and the grandson is OK. I had my last bike for almost 20 years. Had a few close calls but no accidents. Sometimes, no matter how careful you are, there’s no avoiding a collision. I decided to cash it in my chips while I was still ahead.

Now, with my luck I’ll get hit by a bus crossing the street. :)

Too many people on cell phones. Sold my bikes years ago. Know too many people with similar stories. I wouldn’t get on a bike again if you gave me one.

Sorry about the detour in your life. Things should get easier as you feel better. Glad the boy did OK.

If it's any consolation, had a mx crash 40 years ago. "No chance of keeping left leg if I lived." I lived, ortho on call was a MASH doc from Nam. Said I reminded him of a claymore injury. Leg still follows me around.

    Never forget: Chicks dig scars!

    yes.
no settlement until my outpatient treatment is over, and I am recovered as well as is possible.
my first three weeks were ICU and a floor for old folks seriously hurt. not counting the surgeon or anesthetic, $500,500 plus.
two plus months in a rehab center, no idea how much yet. will incur lots more between now and the time the hardware comes off my leg. I expect the total will be in excess of a million.
since I was part time security, there will be lost wages, the bike is totaled, pain and suffering.
my inability to yet drive, go to see family, especially all those perfect grandchildren, has a price tag that is huge.

Daym! Glad you made it this time. I think that would Ruin me for 2 wheels. I've been on the fence about selling my sport bike. Good luck with the recovery. Sounds like a long road but you made it this far, may aswell keep going!

Glad you made it. Very glad your grandson is ok.
I rode for 30 years until a lady decided she needed my lane more then I did. She also managed to kill my father in law in the same crash on another bike.
I rode one time after that.
Have not ridden since. Would love to, but as others have said just way too much distracted driving going on these days.

I’m sorry you had to go through all of that. I’m glad you and your grandson are still with us. I’ll pray for your continued recovery. Also as a side note, please see someone about PTSD, before any signs show up.

Hang in there, glad you survived. Yet another reminder that every time I head out on two wheels I might not come back, no matter how careful I am. Sincere best wishes and keep on posting! you need to make another run north into my state.

Same here...too many distracted drivers...too much traffic, too many in too much of a hurry...just not the same as when I rode in the 60's
