I have 8 Gen 3 Glocks...I think. I have a few 9mm conversions barrels for some and a 357 Sig conversion barrel for my esteemed G-35. I became a Glock fan-boy.....I think aournd 2001? Anyway, they all have been holding up just fine. Most have been shot with reloads and I'm pretty sure I have a few that I have never shot any factory ammo. I wish I had an accurate round count, but my G-19s get shot the most, so based upon how much I have reloaded 9mm over the last few years, I thnk I can guess each of 2 of my 3 G-19s has had around 2500-3000 rounds in them. I saved one G-19 for my 20 year old son. He rarely takes it out shooting and mostly shoots rifles.
How are your Gen 3s holding up these days? I've never had any issues with any of them, even the conversion from 40 S&W to 9mm ones. The only thing I've had to replace are a couple of magazine springs as they've been fully loaded for over 10 years in some cases. Because of this, I've never had the "need" for a Gen 4 or 5. I'm not saying they are bad, but I've just never had the need for one because my Gen 3s are awesome. Because they ALWAYS shoot. Always.
My Gen3 Glock 22 is holding up beautifully. All stock, even with the same plastic sights it came with (and yes, I know they suck...I'll replace them eventually). When cleaned up and wiped down with a silicone cloth, it looks absolutely amazing....far better than that baked-on finish of the newer models.
I've got a KKM 9mm conversion barrel for it as well, and it works perfectly.
I have over 50,000 rounds in my Gen.3 G17.I have broke 2 trigger springs and one locking block.I have around 15,000 rounds in my Gen.3 G34 and haven't replaced anything but the recoil spring on it and the trigger spring while I was detail stripping it.The gen.3 frying pan finish is my favorite and none of my glocks show much wear on the slide.
Mine (G23.3) has been awesome since 2014. My go to EDC, it gets carried the most. Zero issues with anything about it. I never really understood why a Gen 4 ships with three magazines. And a Gen 3 ships with two. I'd gladly trade the lame ass Gen 4 grip inserts for another magazine any day of the week. Topic for another day I spose.
I have been carrying a G23 since 1996 and 7 of those years I had to qualify 4 times a year without a problem. Just shot it on Friday and still operated as well as it did when I bought it..
My G23-3 runs great even when I use it with a Alpha Wolf 9mm conv barrel. It is NOT reliable with a light on it. There are a couple threads on this site addressing that issue. Other than that very happy with mine.
I found Glock Perfection with the Gen 3. I am a retired policeman who works as an armed security patrol supervisor. So my Glock 19 Gen 3 sees most of my work but occasionally I go with the Glock 17 Gen 3.
My brother a few years back sold off his Gen 3s for Gen 4s and now he regrets it. I looked into the Gen 5 when they came out but would prefer a Gen 2 if I did not liked the finger grooves.
I only have one Gen3 and is a police trade in g35. I chose a Gen 3 because its going to be heavily modfied for USPSA limited division. I am about half way done with it and I never fired the factory barrel. I shoot a KKM. I have about 100 rounds through it but as soon as it warms up a little I average 500-1000 rounds per month, I expect it to hold up just fine.
My oldest Gen 3 G17 2 pin gun has about 285,000 rounds thru it now. Cracked a slide around 100K, replaced the extractor at around 200K, maybe 7 RSA's during that time frame. I guess it's ok.
Due to arthritis, I'm no longer shooting competition, but FWIW....
G 34 used for USPSA Production has about 175 K thru it
G 35, Limited & L-10, about 140 K
Only changes from stock, Dawson Precision steel Hi-Viz sights, installed when new, both pistols.
We used to shoot 3-4 matches a week, plus practice.
older Glocks, G-20, 50K+, G-29 (edc) close to 40K, all about Norma level loads !
Hey Chewey, need more SiG brass ? I cleaned out my loading shed !
quite well. I have a 22 and a 20.
Thousands thru the 22.
Something in me says these are gonna be the sought after glocks in years to come if one doesn't mind finger grooves. I wonder, if they can still be had new? They are still listed on the Glock site, even for 9MM which is up to gen 5.
My ~21 year old 21 and no clue how many rounds but it has been a lot.... performs like a new gun. Same with my old 19, but newer than the 21, possibly more rounds. Then again my 1908 Enfield shoots true as ever. Lol
