I have trained myself to keep my trigger finger (right handed) tight against the frame. When I have my trigger finger in that index position it applies upward pressure on the slide stop lever on the right side. I am also trained to sling shot the slide to chamber the first round. This manual of arms creates a consistent malfunction when attempting to chamber the first round.
I need a replacement slide stop lever that is right handed only or to modify the existing slide lock to remove the right side appendage.
Gen 5 slide stop has that little nub on each side, I would first file that down on the right side and try it. If you still have the problem just take off that portion that goes over the frame leaving the rest of the right arm intact. Problem solved. I’m not aware of a 3rd party part that will meet your need but I don’t know everything.
I have trained hard to develop this manual of arms that will hold up under stress and it works perfectly with Gen 3 and 4 Glocks. Retraining is not an option. If the Gen 5 were not a gift from loved ones I would trade it for a Gen 4. I am hopeful that a solution will present itself.
Can you chamber your first round the following way: Lock the slide back. Insert loaded mag., then use left-hand-on-top-of-slide to grab and release the slide? (This is not slingshot method).
I have two Gen 5 Glocks. Looking closely at the slide release, on the right hand side it doesn’t engage or touch the slide on the right hand side when in a lock back position. It almost appears to be there as a backup. I see no issue with trimming off the right control.
If you have trepidation about cutting it, just buy a spare catch and cut that one. Then you can put the gun back to its exact prior condition whenever you want.
I performed the modification per the graphic provided by Borg Warner above. I range tested the modified pistol today and it ran great. Thank you!
