About six months ago I swore off of .40 S&W. Sold off my G22 gen4 and all of my ammo for it too. Then recently it hit me.....I miss my old trusty G22 workhorse.

I started shopping around and came across an un-issued police department G22 still new in box. After inspection, I noticed it had my favorite finish as well....the old "frying pan" finish. I know it's just a Glock but I do love that older finish. It also came with night sights, three mags and the non-beaver tail grip modules. Sure enough, it was never issued and was unfired still in the box. The fired casing envelope in the box is from 2012.

I've been to the range with it once for testing since I bought it and loved seeing those .40 casings come flying out of the slide. As expected, it ran 100% with no issues.

I can honestly say that I'm glad to have a G22 back in the safe. I guess I have a love hate relationship with .40 S&W but this new to me G22 isn't going anywhere. Plus, I like having an alternative to my mostly 9mm collection. Any other G22 owners share my feelings?

Here she is:

Nice. Not sure what's with the .40 hate. It is an excellent caliber. And the complaints about recoil, especially in a big boy like the 22, are genuinely laughable...
I have 2 G22's.... carry one at work daily and carry it with 100% confidence... no question, I trust my life fully to it... good feeling to have that much confidence in a gun.

Have loaded, and shot, thousands upon thousands of rounds of .40 throughout the years... it's an excellent performer, reliable, powerful... I love it. I sure wish Glock would make a SS flavor...

When I became a lawman almost every Department just authorized .38 caliber revolvers. Coming from the Military Police I was big on the 1911 and .45 ACP. When LAPD and others went to the 9mm we did too. By the time the .40 S&W came out we had already authorized the proven .45 ACP. So why go smaller?

Let this be a lesson to you (insert: appropriate accent), no more ever let go of fawtee pistol again!

I have a 'couple G22's, a Gen2 and a Gen3 G22C, along with a pile of other .40S&W handguns. They've all become the plentiful and very affordable underdogs thanks to the .40's recent trip down the terlet. I however see no problem whatsoever with the caliber and will continue to purchase whatever I might find that appeals to me that's chambered in the caliber, especially when they can be so easily converted to 357sig - to afford me yet another two caliber handgun :D

I have one and have thought about a .357 SIG barrel. Not real sure it is that much more effective, but would just be cool to mess with.
The G22 has a lot going for it.
get a barrel and try it out, man. it's a helluva round. I really love it.

I am a reloader, don't know if you are. It's a bit of a pain to load for, and that is what drove me away. .40 and 10MM are just a walk in the park, cranking out 200 rounds an hour, a breeze. the sig takes some more work, and I couldn't quite dial it in. I intend to revisit it, though!

I've never shot a single factory round of SIG save for Underwood SD rounds, and it's a hot little round. IMO an excellent performer. it has an excellent recoil profile. it's a short, quick, abrupt BLAST, and as soon as you pop the trigger, it's back on target. it's a formidable round. but, I am an oddball compared to most... like my 40s and 10s. and SIG. I think it is the single most under appreciated round out there. not like a .45GAP. a real, formidable, and excellent round. and I'll argue all day long it does fill a role. it duplicated .357 mag. a proven, excellent round.

it was designed to duplicate .357MAG in an auto loading pistol, and it did... I do not know how it never took off more than it did, and it's sad. you're taking away revolver recoil, and adding 10 more rounds in a full size pistol!! I am a shameless advocate for the round even if I own nothing chambered in it at present, save for a G31 barrel. give it a try, if you're like most, you'll be hooked... killer round.

At least you figured it out pretty quickly. Below is not directed at "you" but more generally...

I found out several decades ago. I quit dumping a caliber and guns on a whim. In my 30+ years of shooting, I have found that my likes and dislikes have been in cycles. Those cycles may take 5 years or a dozen. When I found myself buying the exact same guns after selling them (at a loss)....I quit doing that.

Don't like a gun or a caliber right now? Put them away at the back of the safe. Before you sell a few years from now, take them out for one more trip to the range. If the love is truly gone? Maybe it's time?

I have a G22 gen3 and a G31 gen3 love them both but prefer .357sig. The G22 just came home tonight from being under the knife... She received red dot sight cut, tungsten cerekote job and Ameriglow suppressor sights. G31 is getting the treatment as well. Both will have Holosun 507c GN optics.

Welcome back OP. I carried an issued G22.2 and then a G22.3 on duty for about 20 years. I dumped my personal G23.3 when we switched to 19M’s and bought a personal G19.4, but I wasn’t into it. I began missing my G23.

Soooo... I bought a G32.4 (Love it!), and now just bought a G35.4 to go with it. I came back too, sorta. I’d definitely recommend trying a 357 Sig barrel for your G22. A fun caliber, and you’d have two choices for the same pistol. I’m currently waiting on a KKM 357 Sig barrel to add to the G35. Gonna go for warp speed.lol

Just converted a G22 to .357 Sig by changing out the barrel and sights and literally just finishing up my first batch of .357 Sig reloads so I appreciate your post. It is a bit of extra work. Not that much though and going up test them out tonight at the range, fingers crossed. I am always leery of setback with the round but using a powder that really fills the case.

General question: I’ve always heard that the .40 round *may* be hard on the G22 frame (not sure if this is a real issue). My question is, would the .357 Sig be harder, more gentle or about the same on the gun? In the end, doesn’t matter to me, going up keep shooting the fantastic pistol but it has me curious.

I have a Gen3 G22 that I bought new in probably 2006 or early 2007. I love it. When it is cleaned up, wiping it with a silicon cloth really brings out the luster on that slide. Mine still has the plastic sights though. :(

Personally speaking, I think that 165gr. JHPs at 1,140-1,160 fps makes this thing the best power-to-capacity ratio of any carry gun on the market. I'm partial to the 165gr. Winchester Ranger T-series loads, but I currently only have a box of 180gr T-series loads that are almost as old as the gun itself. I need new carry ammo.
