I found a used s&w scandium commander sized 1911 nearby and purchased it from an awesome guy today. It needs some cleaning , but seems in good conditiion. I have always wanted to try a scandium 4.25 inch 1911 so the carry weight is easier.

Does anyone have any experience with scandium s&w 1911's ?? .

This is an older pistol so hoping it might have less mim in it. The pistol was built in 2004. Anyone knowing what parts are mim would be appreciated to pass that along. The trigger seems about 5 pounds.. but i have not used a guage.

It has a longer than gi guide rod. But i took it apart easily. No barrel crown, so i might fix that. The grip safety seems kind of loose, but it is working great.

I have read so I'm not sure, that when SW started making 1911s. Their custom shop crew were closely watching and training the employees to make them. According to some 1911 fans, they were very well built pistols. Because of the size the markings, some call the older ones billboards. If you do a detail strip, you should be able to find small circles on parts that are MIM. Congratulations.

Thanks , i will look for any circles. It has a heavy recoil spring due to the low slide weight. The lockup and barrel fit seem good. The finish seems fine, it has the stupid this fire will fire w the magazine removed on it, but its not huge.

The balance in hand seems very good.

I need to do a really good cleaning and see what i think about the internal stuff. Its not a high end pistol, but seems to be nicely built and put together. I have read some really good things about these early production scandium guns. Someone told me the custom shop folks were very involved with these early production guns. The fit seems like that may be true.

bac , do you know much about these ? 2004 scandium .. i think they very fairly expensive back then.

See how it shoots first. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Those are nice carry guns but I don't know what the triggers are like. It might need some gunsmithing on the trigger.

Glad you were so kind to give that poor orphan a good home.

I had one back around the early 2000s. My Dad won it at a local shoot and didn’t like it. Bought it from him for $450. I got the son discount. It was a good shooter never any issues I can recall. But I sent it away in favor of something else. Always wished I’d kept it. It seemed to balance nicely and shoot softly for some reason.
