Hey everyone,

I’m in the process of obtaining my ccw for the first time and will be carrying a Glock 26. I’ve been browsing through these forums and YouTube looking for holster suggestions. I’m pretty open to any whatever being that I’m new and inexperienced. I live in CA so my only real options are IWB and maybe OWB if wearing a jacket but prefer to stick to IWB suggestions. I’m also open to various positions (appendix, hip, etc.) I have yet to try any on but have heard good things about brands like alien gear and Tulster. I’m 5’ 9” and about 150lbs or so. What are you wearing and what are some of your suggestions for a newbie?

Primary carry is a G26 also, my favorite holster is a Theis IWB Hybrid worn at 4:30. I find it to be the most comfortable holster and secure worn for extended periods. If I’m running a quick errand or have to remove the gun/holster to enter a place where guns are prohibited, then a full kydex (Stay Holstered) is easier to take off and on.

G-CODE Incog Eclipse iwb at 4 o'clock on a double layer Liberty Gun Belt, canted, and flat bottom mag with an undershirt, and holster has a full sweat guard. I can conceal that all year round, from t-shirt and shorts on up. I'm 5'9" 175. I do occasionally spend a little time with a 29SF usually when we go hiking but carry that in the same manner, just a different holster manufacture same style though.

It depends on a lot of things. Are you going to put it on in the morning and take it off when you go to bed? If so get a two clip holster of some kind. The extra clip will balance the weight better on the belt. I'm very happy with an Alien gear tuck holster.

If you are going to be taking it off and putting it on a couple of times a day then a single clip holster is going to be a better choice because taking a two clip holster off and on is annoying and a real problem in a car.

Get a good belt. No matter the holster its going to feel bad if you don't have a good foundation for the holster to hang on.

I'm sure most of us have dealt with this issue (and have many holsters to show for it). My last IWB holsters (kydex) that I've been happy with are from Vedder and Bravo Concealment, but you just have to find what works best for you. I love the look, feel and smell of leather holsters, but IMO it is just hard to beat kydex for carrying all-day, every-day.

I hope you get your CCW in Kali. The best of luck to you.

I travel back every few months and the fact they won’t honor my CCW aid rediculous.

Look at Vedder Holsters. They have a cobra gun belt that is 1.5 in and doesn’t require you to take the buckles off to feed it through belt loops.

I have one holster that works for each gun and mode of carry I employ (IWB, AIWB, Shoulder, Pocket), but it isnt the same holster for each.

I have one of those Rough Neck storage tubs full of cast offs I went through getting to my current go set.

If you end up getting that right one holster the first time, definitely let us know because you might be eligible for a Guiness World Record nomination. :)
That's about how I am. I have a big cardboard box. In it are 4 gallon-sized ziploc bags. One for each of my 4 Glocks. In each of those bags are a few holsters and/or holster bodies, for the holsters that I don't use very frequently. In my nightstand are the holsters I use frequently.

Each of my holsters are for a different purpose: OWB, IWB, mountain biking or kayaking, extremely discreet, etc.

If you always carry a gun and do different type activities while carrying a gun, odds are extremely high that you will need several types of holsters. For every pistol you carry.

I am in CA too and have been CCW since 1981. Get a lot of professional training and the Glock 26 is a great choice. I have been using the Glock Combat/Sport Holster for 3 years and it is a basic OWB. You will eventually have many holsters depending on the season and how you dress.

Be safe my friend.

. . . . Didn't even think about a gun belt till people brought it up. . . .
A proper gun belt makes a huge difference in your comfort level in when you carry. Most belts are made to hold up pants, and will sag when you add a gun, holster and a couple of spare mags. If that happens, you're going to wind up hitching up your pants every few steps and that's a pretty good giveaway that you're carrying.

Lots of holster makers also make gun belts, so they're not hard to find. My favorite is Beltman, but I've also used a DeSantis Econobelt and an Aker B21 with good results.

That is crazy. I'm pocket carrying a 43 right now and it is printing worse than that.

IMO, It is about how we dress for the occasion. If he were wearing tight-fitting jeans or slacks, you'd notice and he'd be printing.

So OP, along with your chosen carry style and placement be aware it's going to also include how you dress.
For instance many folks who EDC-IWB do purchase larger pants to fit the weapon more comfortably for that style of carry.

For me at least I think about holsters and carry styles like I do about clothing and what's appropriate dress for an occasion.

I wear my chest rig most of the time. I wear a tee undershirt and a loose fitting snap down collared shirt over it untucked.

Headed to the beach? Plop my short pants on and belt carry my OWB pancake. Once again with a loose fitting shirt.

I don't IWB only because I've found other ways to carry that work and feel comfortable all day long for me. Yet I sell a lot of IWB's and have plenty of happy customers.

Below My Pro-S tucked high and tight above the belt.

How is the retention on that chest holster? If it keeps the gun in place while running, etc., the retention must be really strong. So strong that drawing the gun must be really difficult, it would seem, since the gun is practically hanging down to begin with. Looks like just passive retention to me.

Well, #1 it has a thumbscrew that you can cinch down or lighten up. #2 on the muzzle up orders ( and practically all), I massage/adjust the inherent tension in them to allow for proper tensioning ability. In other words to be able to tension to taste.

But what you cannot tell is because of where it is located; centrally and above the sacrum, there really isn't much force above gravity working on the weapon even while running.

So far and 3 years in, it appears to work for many-many runners and outdoors types.

I'm partial to Tucker and Garret Holsters for tuckable, and for OWB nice Leather Holsters.

For my G-19's and 30's with Lights, I like the Ravens OWB's.

Like most others, I've spent a few thousand on Holsters ...... fortunately Ms gamboolgal is Texas gal who carries a G-26 and is good shot herself. So she puts up with me really needing this one.....
