I'm not a collector (yet). And, I don't have range only guns (yet). So, I'm set on the number of 3 pistols: 1. EDC Glock 43 2. Downstairs HD Glock 19, and 3. Nightstand HD Glock 22. And for now, three is pretty much the max I want to have for those purposes and the max I want to purchase ammo for and shoot.

However, the G19 is sort of in no man's land in my rotation. Either the EDC 43 or nightstand 22 could work in its place as long as I move them from place to place. As of now, I prefer shooting the Glock 43 and 22 over the 19 at the range. Why? I don't know. But the G19 is in firm #3 standing.

I have an opportunity to pick up a used Glock 27. I'm enjoying shooting the G22 and have come around to the .40 S&W caliber. So, I'm considering purchasing the G27 and replacing the G19 as my downstairs HD firearm. And I would most likely sell the G19.

Good idea or bad idea?

I’m not planning on giving up any guns, but I plan for the future. Gun ban may happen after Trump, so I’d keep the G19 and grab a 27 police trade in with a conversion barrel. Acquire what you can and grab some magazines whilst at it!

What is a good/bad idea for some is a good/bad idea for others. I had a G19.5 until Sunday. Sold it for $150 more than I had into it. So for me...good idea. Went and bought another G22.4 and had a bunch of $ left over for something else.

Here's my two cents:

You have two 9mm's and one .40 S&W. Whatever you decide to do with the G19, I'd purchase a 9mm conversion barrel for the G22. That way you have a common caliber between all your weapon platforms. That way, even if you trade out the G19 for a G27 you still have the means to shoot 9mm out it.

OP, I'm not a .40 caliber fan and the Glock 19 is my favorite gun so you know what that means.

For me, if I was to narrow down my guns to three of them it would be:
1. Glock 19 = EDC Gun
2. Spare 19 = because I believe that one should have a spare duplicate of his/her EDC gun
3. S&W .38 special 2" snubby (lots of models to choose from) or possibly my Glock 42 = my "I'm not carrying a gun" gun or sometimes BUG

My EDC gun is on from morning till nighttime, then it goes on the nightstand.

You make a good point about having a spare of your EDC. I've read that before. The G43, my EDC, is my favorite of all three Glocks that I own. However, if it was on the shelf for whatever reason, I would carry the G19. And if I purchase the used G27, it would be my back up EDC. On the other hand, I also have an opportunity to purchase a used G43 which only muddies the picture. Choices...

i am not picking on you, because your choice of guns is of course yours alone. and the glocks are very functional and generally function ok.

BUT ,

there is a world of interesting and fun and historic guns that offer you so much in accuracy and function and better quality of build , not to even mention that you can learn about other systems and gun platforms.

i would have a 1911 and a sig 220 and a s&w revolver after you have some generic glock to carry for CCW.

it’s like someone’s entire food range is on the mcdonalds menu... or you have only seen the american pie movies and never seen north by northwest or body heat....

the glock , the shield , the xds , they are fine at what they are... but they are just cheap plastic guns that are light and cheap for carry. my god , there are some really fantastic designs that you should learn about and appreciate.

your telling us you have an adjustable wrench and screwdriver and pliers and your tool box is full. NO , it’s not even a start.

Well, that's what I'm afraid of. The adjustable wrench works most of the time. The entire big red Craftsmen roller set is where I'm headed.

, in my opinion, the G19 is the best defensive semi-auto ever made.

I'd never sell yours. Its the one gun "every" shooter should have.
wow, there are so many better defensive semi auto pistols...

1911’s

sig P series

HK USP

the glock 19 is fine at what it does, but it’s not the end all of any defensive pistols. there are better glocks to start with . the g31 and g20 are better.

the fbi hostage rescue team uses 1911’s , the secret service for decades has used the sig 229 in 357 sig. you don’t think those groups know something about defensive guns ??

Lots of opinions to go around but everybody is different in their needs, desires, income, and level of investment in firearms.

Based on your comments about your preferences, I'd say get the 27 and sell the 19 if you don't enjoy shooting it as much (and you can't or don't want to be the "never sell a gun" guy).

You'll still be sharing a caliber. You'll still have excellent backups if your G43 goes down for repairs.

Two added thoughts:
1. If possible, buy and shoot the 27 before selling the 19, just in case you don't like it better.
2. As others have said, get conversion barrels for one or both .40s.

And then, yes, save some extra money and get a nice revolver, too. But that's my own opinion.

Although, honestly, if you've started off on Glocks, you could very well hate a nice double action revolver. It takes some real practice/getting used to..

My second purchase was a 442 no lock revolver, very similar to what you pictured. And I loved the look of that gun. But, it wasn't a great shooter with +P or even regular old .38. Up to about 4 yards it was good, and o.k. at 5 yards but beyond that... not so much. I really liked looking at the 442, it was a cool looking gun. But, the low capacity and poor accuracy made it a no go for me. I'll try a revolver at a later time.

Keep the 19 because as stated previously. The 19 is just the best defensive 9mm on the market. I’m a Glock fan so for me it’s the 43, 26, 19, 17 must have 9mm. The reason is that Glocks are reasonably priced and shoot great right out of the box. Parts are very accessible. I like my 19x but it’s not in my favorite cary platform. I will always have those first 4 in my cary rotation. I throw my Shield 9mm M2.0 in the mix every now and then I haven’t gotten out any of my Glock 40’s out in ages. Every once in a wile I shoot my 1911’s. On occasion I’ll shoot my Glock 20 and 21 but never cary them. If you have one Glock they multiply over night soon you will have a bunch in the safe. I’m going to start gifting some to my Sons and Grandsons when they get a little older. This is just my opinion and I’m sure you will figure out what works best for you. Good luck in you decisions. Oh I forgot about the P365 that is interesting possibly. That next on my radar.

Sell your Glock 19. You will eventually regret it and when you acquire another one you will appreciate it more.

For me in addition to my Glock 19 I have a S&W Model 638 revolver for my BUG. In my rotation I want a wheel gun as I enjoy them immensely. Enjoy and be safe.

I have had a couple G19 Gen 4, even a Gen 5 recently. I just do not have the same confidence in the 9mm that I have with the .40 S&W and .357sig ammo.

I have a G27 and have the .40 & .357sig barrels. I like it far better than a G26 9mm.

If I were considering a G19 9mm, I would also compare it with the G23 .40 S&W and a .357sig barrel. My Sigs have both .40 and .357sig barrels: NO 9mm.
I even have a .40 conversion barrel for my G20 Gen 4 10mm.

I always suggest that you try out firearms of interest. Shoot them at the range and check to see if you can carry it comfortably, and do you have confidence in the weapon.
For home use a Remington 870 12ga works, especially when you are half asleep. You don't have to aim quite as accurately. Point and shoot.
Pick what is best for you.

I’d personally keep the 19 as your “downstairs defense pistol,” and acquire the 27 to play with. I wouldn’t necessarily downsize (in frame size or capacity) to a subcompact pistol for primary defense in my home. The 19 assuming its at least a Gen 3, gives you the capability of attaching a quality, high lumen weapons lights, while the 27 doesn’t. The 27’s still a great EDC pistol if you want something in .40.

I have found the 19/23/32 platform with finger grooves not a good fit for my hands. Your new found enjoyment of the 22 might be because of a better fit.

The 17/22/31 and the 26/27/33 with Pearce extensions finds myself more comfortable at the range and carry.

I’m not a collector nor do I have any range guns. I have (6) that are setup exactly the same, I have owned all (6) models and retain (3) 26s and (3) 17’s.

If you are looking for something else close to the 26/27/33 in size and weight plus a good fit to hand, hold a 30s. I have one left and have given the other two to my granddaughters.
