I'm wanting some new sights on my 30sf. I've been looking at daweson precision. I want simple black with serrations and a fairly thin front something with more precision. what do you guys recommend? should i try installing them myself? if not whats the going rate for a gunshop to do it?

I like the Dawson Precision myself. My local gun store charges $10 unless you buy them there when installation is free. If you live close to Fairhope, Alabama, I can do it put them on for free, just PM me. I am a Glock armorer and have the proper tools.

Is your G30SF intended for serious purposes, or it is a range toy only?

I use only Glock OEM night sights on every Glock, none of them range toys. They cost $67 per set direct from Glock, and Glock will install them for free if you send the slide to them.

THIS!

Unless it's a range toy........your most important shooting will probably be in low light.

Dawson Precision give the best sight picture of anything I’ve found. Infinitely better than a three dot picture. They are fairly easy to install yourself. Can make it look professional with a little effort, or just beat em on with the provided aluminum punch (while pinning the slide against a thick book with your knee) like I do ;)

Robert Burke put a set of plain, black sights on my P320 compact. I love black sights. So sharp and crisp. There is something about dots that confuse my eyes. Sorry, I don’t know exactly what size (thickness) the front blade is, but it’s perfect (the photo makes it seem as though the front sight is crooked. The sights are perfectly centered; it’s my crooked angle with the camera).

I've gravitated to Warren Tactical and Heinie two dot vertical night sights on my Glock pistols. These are great sights for serious use only! <grin>. Solid sights and easy to install if you have the right tools. In fact I invested into a a rear sight pusher tool and the correct driver for the front sight installation. It is worth every cent.

Pistols can shoot further but most engagement distances are normally within 5-7 yards, I’m sure that’s what he’s referencing. Sure I can hit an 8x11 piece of paper at 50 but I would much rather use a rifle. All that being said I use Cz custom f/o front black rear. I prefer the f/o front for the simple fact my eyes see it faster in daylight. At night I carry a flashlight so the spill from the light will light up the f/o.

Give Dawson a call, I believe they supply an aluminum drift for the rear sight as well. They can assist in selection and install.

The Glock OEM offers a good price but just a few days ago several Posters were complaining of the finish wearing off prematurely to where it was too hard to get a good sight picture.

Good Luck and enjoy.

Just depends on what you’re using your 30sf for? If primarily a range toy for target shooting then the Dawson sights would work well. For EDC or defensive use I personally Ameriglo sights on any guns I own that they make sights for. I prefer the subdued rear tritium with orange outlined front tritium as they make for extremely quick acquisition and followup shots. 2nd choice would probably be Truglo TFX Pro’s.
Prob looking at $20-40 to have installed unless you buy your sights there, in that case it should be free install.
They are a piece of cake to install with the right tools though. If you have multiple guns and will be changing sights out fairly regular, invest in a good universal front/rear sight pusher tool (or go in on one with a buddy). I’ve had several and have found the Wheeler Universal works best for me and mine and buddies’ guns. Used it extensively on everything from Glock/XD/MP to Sigs to 1911’s and others and haven’t found one yet it wouldn’t work on. Paid for itself many times over.

I've often thought that a line of night sight material along both sides of the front of the frame would be a great aid in quick shooting in low light.

Somebody should come up with that process. I'd be interested in having it done.

I have black Dawson on one of my Glocks. It’s adjustable for windage and elevation. Great rear sight. Do note, you can order different width front sights. For accuracy I believe you would want a fatter front so the accuracy is improved. The skinnier is faster to pick up, but you lose precision. For me, my setup is for GSSF target shooting and works great. Dawson is a great company.

well i'm not tactical and i don't operate lol but i do roam the woods a lot wild hogs and wild dogs are a big concern here and my 30sf is going to be my woods gun. last time i was at the range just for fun i shot at a 20 oz bottle at 50 yards and came darn close! ( i would have kept most on a silhouette) with finer sights i think i can learn to hit pretty well at 50 yards and really shrink my groups at 10 and 15 yards.

You and some of know that these little guns are good for
so much more than seven yards, I would not want a gun
that could not make a fifty yard shot.
Technically, one COULD make a 50yd shot and place a bullet somewhere on a 6’ tall target with any gun. Can you put multiple rounds rapid-fire in center mass of that man-sized target at 50yds? Gonna go out on a limb and say doubtful. Not about could or could not, it’s about using the optimal tool for the job at hand.

''Technically, one COULD make a 50yd shot and place a bullet somewhere on a 6’ tall target with any gun.''

Yes they could if they shot enough shots, some guns
would require some luck as they are not accurate
enough, some are accurate enough. I have more than
40 that are.

''Can you put multiple rounds rapid-fire in center mass of that man-sized target at 50yds? Gonna go out on a limb and say doubtful.

You did not say what kind of handgun, also how many
rounds do you need center mass, have you ever hunted, with
a handgun? How fast is rapid fire? How many different
handguns have you shot at fifty yards or two hundred twenty
yards or farther? Have you ever shot in the long range
pistol silhouette matches or the NRA pistol bullseye matches?

Some guns are much harder than others and some would
be luck as they will not group tight enough.
=======================================

''Not about could or could not, it’s about using the optimal tool for the job at hand.''

Sometimes it's about using what you carry, it is usually not
optimal, I always hated that saying, the one you have is the
best for the job, it rarely is the best for the job.
========================================

The hardest pistol matches I have ever shot was International
and NRA bullseye, the 10 ring and x ring are less than two
inches at fifty yards/meters. Shooting one hand and open sights.

Pistol silhouette was easy but the ranges are much farther,
out to 220 yards. I used a 44 mag for it. Have not shot in
a pistol silhouette match for thirty years, so I am not as good
as I was. I am kinda used up.

That was shot standing, no rest and with open sights.

hello,

i've moved from a Para Ordnance P1445 to a G21 Gen4. used to the three dot sights. really good at being able to shoot 1 in groups at 25 yds. can't get smaller than a 12 in grouping with the one dot up front and the three sided rear rectangular sight. have looked at the two dot rear sights but they are sold by sizes. how do i go about selecting the correct size?

I got a like new set of Trijicon HD EX sights at a killer price and put them on my G17.4.
It is a HD and range gun. The wider rear notch and the narrow front sight is a great picture.

I have Dawson FO Adj Rear and FO front on my G34.4
I had the same set on my G24 back when I was shooting USPSA.

I love Dawson FO front, black resd on my competition guns but I prefer Heini straight 8 on my fighting guns.
