Like with Dick's announcing no more AR sales, this is just more free advertising, but this time it's for Citi Group.
And just like with Dick's, this new "policy" won't affect gun and gun accessory sales one iota: it'll only hit Citi Group in the pocketbook, because duh, it's simple enough to transfer any $$ amount balance that's presently on a Citi card to another bank with lower rates and no such rediculousness, or simply choose not to do business with Citi Group. The End.
Idiots. This is nothing but more pandering to political correctness and the left wing liberal democrats, once again cutting their noses off to spite their face...
I got rid of my Citi Card about 16 years ago when I found out how snotty and *****y their customer service people were. Now I know why they were like that...they hire Liberals.
The new policy, announced Thursday, prohibits the sale of firearms to customers who 1}have not passed a background check or who are 2}younger than 21. It also bars the sale of bump stocks and high-capacity magazines. It would apply to clients who offer credit cards backed by Citigroup or borrow money, use banking services or raise capital through the company.
I think the issue with background checks is the ones that go into suspense. Current law is if the FBI does not respond within 3 days the sale can go forward. Citibank would force retailers to deny these. Not clear to me what happens if the FBI responds on the 4th day. Also not clear what happens on a false positive which make up a large number of denials. It takes some time to clear those. If all banks were to adopt such policies, the FBI in a hostile administration (or as we have seen a hostile FBI in a friendly administration) could shut down gun sales by simply not responding timely.
Last night, I contacted Costco that uses Citibank cards as of earlier this year. They responded that they are remaining neutral in the matter. I informed them that their neutrality will change nothing as Citibank made their decision to attempt to strong-arm their customers unilaterally and their business will be impacted, unfortunately. My card found its way to the shredder. Isn’t it ironic that American taxpayers bailed Citibank out and now they have chosen to use their business process to force their ideology on the public. These are very foolish business decisions and the beginning of corporate bullying. Well, I have news for Citibank; they are not the only credit card in town....
We need to take a stand against companies attempting to determine law.
I do not have a Citibank card per se', but I am cancelling my Home Depot and Best Buy cards today. Any account that I find with "CBNA". (Citibank North America)
Companies think they can dictate law in this country?
Let's punch back with where we spend our hard earned dollars!

It's about money. Always about money. They don't care about our ARs. They've concluded through market research that they'll gain more customers than they'll lose with this move.
These businesses are pretty stupid. Just how much money do they think the communist front groups they cave in to will be generating for them? And how long do they think they'll be in business after the Marxist State is forced upon the nation by these traitors? All of these corporate leaders will be put on show trial, and executed as "enemies of the people". Maybe some of them should start reading up on Communist Revolutionary practices.
What communist groups are you talking about? I don't think you understand what Marxism is and that this is nothing to do with an economic policy. Rhetoric like this makes us all look bad.
Yesterday I ordered ten standard capacity magazines from Brownell’s free shipping. During checkout there was an option to donate to NRA. Max amount was $10 so I did. I also sent $50 direct and renewed for another year by their mailer. Now I will be closely watching State and Local elections to cast my vote against ant-gun politicians. Sadly I am a bit out numbered here in Miami but I will keep doing what I can.
I may start a monthly donation to the NRA. I suppose I can eat out one less time a month for the 2nd Amendment.

Thats not always true.
1. I doubt that any conclusive market research can be completed in a week.
2. Many large private companies are guided by the philosophy of their governing Board, regardless of logic.
3. Coca Cola almost lost their market share when their "research" showed that they should change their formula in 1985.
4. Development of the sony betamax.
5. Crystal Pepsi in 2016.
6. Lands End losing 33% of stock share due to launching new, more upscale clothing line.
I can go on, but the bottom line is that there have always been major players in companies that make decisions based on their understanding which ends badly.
I understand your point, but i would venture to say that more leaders are being swayed by social influences than truth, logic and research.

I doubt they started their market research a week ago. Five million NRA members means there are 330~~million who are not members. I bet most NRA members are Fudds. ARs are America's gun but the iPhone dwarfs it in sales thousands of times over as people join the anti NRA sentiment on their iPhone FB apps. People forget. In six months Citicorp will be offering their new NRA credit card.

The beauty of this is someone one will step in to fill the void. That’s how the free market works. The same wil happen with YouTube. Out of adversity comes opportunity.
