While I have always liked the aesthetics of the HK p7, I didn't like the squeeze cocking mechanism or the delayed gas piston system. I thought it made the weapon overly complex for a combat handgun. This system did work, so my complaints are minor. But here's the idea I had. What if HK or some other reputable company reintroduced the HK p7 with some changes, which are listed below.
-Replace the squeeze cocking mechanism with a standard striker fired assembly such as those found in glocks, FNS, etc..
-Replace the gas-delayed piston system with either a browning tilting barrel system or a rotating barrel system. (I mention the rotating barrel system because it is more likely to facilitate the low bore axis the p7 is known for.)
-Make the pistol capable of taking 15-17 round double stack magazines.
-Make it available in 4 and 4.5 inch barrels. (Maybe 5 inch barrels as well for those who want to compete with it.)
-Put a 1913 picatinny rail on the dust cover to allow the mounting of lights and lasers for home defense.
Now let's assume this pistol is reliable and accurate. Would you consider it? I would just because I think it's cool. But do you think you would like it? Or would you rather have the original? I wouldn't blame you if you did, either.
