.
I'd opt for the GP100 in 44 Spl. I love that caliber, will have to check that max. pressure, but it's a very accurate round.Along those lines of my recent "I want yet another press" thread, I REALLY want a new gun, but I can't make up my mind.
This is also posted in the reloader section, because I want a gun in an "oddball" caliber that I will enjoy tinkering with and uploading a bunch of unique ammo for.
So everything mainstream like 9 mm, .45 ACP, 38 S, etc. is out or the pool right away. Not big on plastic guns either.
I'll list a few firearms that I have in mind, any suggestions in that direction would be nice.
- Ruger Redhawk in .41 Magnum
- Sig P229 Legion in .357SIG
- Ruger GP100 in .44 Special (but don't like the low 15k PSI SAAMI max pressure)
- NAA Guardian in .32 ACP
- Ruger SP101 in .327 Federal Magnum
That 44 Spl looks like a cool gun. I was actually taking a good look at that one.I just got back from a trip to a LGS and handled the Sig P229 Legion, in .40 S&W and not in .357SIG. I REALLY like how that pistol feels. Very balanced and ergonomic.
Problem is, Sig just discontinued this pistol and I have to make up my mind soon. There is only a handful left on GunBroker and soon they will gone or more expensive.
On the other hand, I have a real itch for nice revolver. A semi auto pistol is just that, a lifeless tool.
I also handled a Ruger Redhawk for the very first time. This one was in .44 Mag, and I didn't like the grip at all. It had that black rubber grip that makes it extremely "deep". I have pretty large hands but could barely wrap my fingers around it. Didn't feel right at all.
The question is, if the other Redhawks with classic wooden grips are much better.
I also just looked into 45 Colt. SAMMI max pressure is even lower, at just 14k PSI. I understand that a modern frame from Ruger will handle more, but that is probably not defined at all. Now a .454 Casull would nice and could handle fast loads, but that brings me too close to the .500 S&W Magnum category. I have one of those, don't shoot it a lot. I want a real shooter.
I think it comes down to:
Ruger Redhawk .41 Mag
Ruger GP100 .44 Special
Ruger SP101 in .327 Federal Magnum
What?... I REALLY want a new gun, but I can't make up my mind ....

All kinds of wildcats you can load into the T/C Contender. A favorite was the .30 Herrett. Basically case forming the .30-30 into the .30 Herrett. Another great one was the .22 Hornet in a ten inch. This different enough? 30-30 revolver
You might have a little trouble getting the G40 to lock up:dunno:Is that enough .500?
Trying to mate it with my G40 but nada. Not even in my dark safe. Was so hoping for a Glock in .500.
Look into local auctions. I have bought some nice prelock s&w for less than current priced new ones. My last one was about 5y ago. A m29-1 4" blue, no box, mint shape, double diamond grips, $350?!?! Even at twicw that, more like it, still a bargain.I have had a few Ruger revolvers, I think I have sold off the last of the double action ones, they are strong for sure, just don’t feel as refined to me. I still have a number of single action Ruger revos though and for that matter the SP’s, GP’s, Redhawks and SRH’s are just fine in SA mode too.
Lots of S&W ones though, I know them much better and there is a lot more aftermarket support if you want to make them better than what you get out of the box. Older ones are getting stupid in price, I think they are better myself but not sure they are enough better to justify some of the prices I have seen them bring.
The old Colts have a reputation for being smooth for a reason but I am glad I bought mine back before the cost of them became insane.
