Anyone have any experience with the EAA windicator 357 mag revolver?

They're selling for pretty cheap (around $350), and I don't think a really good revolver can be made cheaply.

I've never associated revolvers with European manufacturers. I know plenty exist, but Euro revolvers just seem like a strange concept that I can't get myself to accept, like French barbeque.

Look up Korth.

A local pawn shop has several, selling from between 275-325, depending on finish and barrel length. There is a blued 4" that to me, is a good looking revolver.

I know just enough to know I know nothing about revolvers, so I have held off. I have a Rossi .38 snubbie that gets ratshot duty once in a while, that is actually a family heirloom and shouldn't be drug into the swamps that I have considered replacing.

The problem with a .357 snub is recoil. Too much recoil for the platform. Face it, you're going to be using a snub at 5 yards, where a .38 will be more than adequate and where the average shooter can recover for the followup shot. Not the case for the .357.

Just to add a wrinkle, many times I carry a .44 SPL snub, and even it's more manageable that a .357. (Slow recoil pulse)

When I carry my Smith M60 .357, I usually have +P .38 special rounds in it. Partially for that reason.

I have one but in the blued version. I kind of like it. Shot maybe 30 rounds through it a couple years ago and put it in the safe and haven't seen it since. I think I paid $260 for it. It's not a bad gun in my opinion. Kicks a bit when shooting 357 rounds as to be expected. I'd buy another one if it was cheap enough.

I purchased mine (blued) in the 1990s.

Great gun - absolutely amazing for the money. I think I paid $180 for it new. Nice DA trigger - not as sweet as a Ruger, but pretty darn good none the less and as I said earlier - absolutely amazing for what I paid for it.

Had it on my CCW (we have to list the guns we will carry here in California) for a few years, but never actually carried it.

I had a Ruger Speed Six 2 3/4 bl SS nice 357, about the same as a K Frame S&W. was a nice carry pistol.
I also had a Model 19 in nickel finish Same as a 66 in ss
I liked that 19 best for off duty carry.
I had a model 60 back when they were 38 spec 5 shot.

Thought this was gonna be some sort of themed windsock made by the Experimental Aircraft Association.
I admit, my first thought was, "'Windicator'? Is this gun for shooting nuclear 'wessels'?" :innocent:

I'm very aware of Korth and Manurhin 73. There's a Korth for sale at an LGS. I'm just saying "European" and "revolver" are two abstract concepts that don't instinctively go together for me.

Hermann Weirauch GmbH Manufacturer. Known as the HW 357 in Germany
http://www.hermann-weihrauch-revolver.de/revolver-for-hunting-and-defense-purpose?lang=en
Original manufacturer of the "Arminus" brand of revolvers, and very well respected by German revolver aficionados. Imported thru EAA. Eaa originally named that revolver the "Vindicator", but due to legal issues, changed the name to "Windicator", some years back. A very good "bin parts"(As in virtually no hand fitted parts!) revolver for the money. They make 2 models and of the 2, the .357 is the best, as it has a solid steel frame. The .38 special does not have a steel frame, and by Weirauchs instructions, is not +P rated. But the .357 model will handle all you can put thru it. The Windicators are basically "K" frame size revolvers, and will use the HKS 10A speed loader.
Now, the downside to the Windicator: Very few aftermarket accessories exist for the revolver, due to them not being big on the American market. And it is not easy to do a detail strip of the pistol, due to it's construction style. No sideplate, instead it is a "clamshell" style frame, with the grip subframe carrying the lockwork, inserted into the main frame from the bottom and then pinned into place. And before you scoff at that style of construction, Charter Revolvers have always been built that way, and in truth, it does make for a stronger frame then a sideplate revolver. But full dis-assembly does take some time and patience due to the construction used.
Action timing has always been very good on the Windicator, with very fast and controlled "carry up", prior to cylinder lockup. I have yet to see any Windicator or any of the old Arminus revolvers be out of time, lo these many years. I have owned several over the years, and even the used Arminus .38 snubby I purchased out of a Pawn shop for about $50(It looked like crap, but cleaned up well) still worked just fine, w/ no action issues what so ever.
EAA offers the Windicator in what they call their Wonder finish, IIRC. Electroless Nickle, and that is a very tough finish to defeat. Just make sure you get the HW 357 model, NOT the .38!
Any price around $300 or lower, and you will be fine.
As Bill Jordan was known to say, "it'll do to ride the River with!"

I just picked up one of these about a month ago. Low mileage, looked like new...300 bucks. Shot a couple wheels of 38, and a couple wheels of 357 target ammo.. not the hot stuff. I was surprised at how accurate it was at 7 yards. It’s a keeper.

38 was easy, the 357 shot fire balls. Going to pick up some underwood and turn it into a flame thrower.
