I have an 18C and have thought about it. The problem is selling it intact is now bringing $5K or more, so little incentive to part it out unless it suffers catastrophic failure.
There are actually a fair number of post sample 18s out there. Perhaps more CIIIs will sell the gun sans frame wgen they're done be w the gun. Don't know y more haven't done so.
Excuse my lack of knowledge here, but what would prevent the G18 slide from being put onto a G17 frame and only firing it in semi auto? I understand the G18 frame has an extra "tab" in the frame, and the slide has an extra "tab" that comes down once switched to full auto, but don't understand why you couldn't use it in semi auto.
I know you have some experience with the G18, so maybe you could explain this for us.
I don't know why the post samples are so expensive. The guns are around $600 to agencies. There are all manner of post sample Colts, HKs, etc at low prices. I don't know why 18s bring so much. I know a guy who has two of them.
Absolutely. My mistake.
I was a CIII for 10 years. I can't tell u how much I regret not tracking a pre sample down. My greatest firearms regret by far.
Wonder what they go for today.
Interesting photos. I did not know the Gen2 G18 pistols have a locking block pin.
The serial number is BSE270, with Austrian proof date code of LDH. That means it was proofed in February 1996. That is consistent with other models which have BSE### serial numbers.
The market value of select-fire weapons in the USA has never had ANYTHING to do with how much the weapon costs to make, or how much it costs for authorized agencies to purchase...especially after FOPA86.
Twenty-five years ago there were real US-made M14 rifles available for sale to authorized agencies for about $800, and select-fire Chinese M14 clones for about $500, IIRC. That's about what a new semi-auto Springfield Armory M1A sold for at the time. Had they been transferrable, the cost after FOPA86 would likely have been more than 20 times higher.
Kind of BS'y. One could probably do more damage with a 17 than they could do with an 18. From the videos I've seen they aren't known for accuracy. For example if I owned one it would be a range toy only, wouldn't use it for HD or to carry. Would be nice to have some common sense gun laws, allowed to have full auto but only for range use, for example..
If said civilian was a class 3 dealer. Select fire switches for Glocks are NOT offered for civilian sale. Post 86 only.
