You can go out to eat everyday or you can stay home
and have better, healthier and much cheaper food by cooking
it yourself.

This is about as cheap as it gets, you will need powder and
primers and a few other things,
but this is most of it, around 120 dollars.

This is like prime rib for the 44/444, they will work on
everything from deer to the largest moose, will cost about
four to five cents each to make, can use a Coleman stove
to melt your lead and almost any SS pan from a yard sale.

This die set comes with a powder dipper, you don't need a powder scale,

Some of your reloads for the 444 can be as cheap
as eight to ten cents each, the best will only be
around 25 to 30 cents each.

I agree, I know those type of premium ammo makers make a good product but at $3 each, that's steep.

I would only pay that if I was going on an African Safari or an expensive guided hunt in the Western US or Alaska where I needed top notch ammo and where the overall expense of the trip made the ammo costs seem like pocket change.

For most of the elephants, grizzlies, and lions here in Western KY, my reloads will work just fine. :)

I roll my own .45-70 for cheap and shoot it out of a NEF Handi-Rifle I bought at a pawn shop for $100 several years ago. I've shot a couple big feral hogs and donated the meat to a food bank. Nasty critters are plumb tearing up good land and the landowners were happy to allow us to come cull the hogs. That .45-70 pretty much drops them where they stand. :cowboy:

This is BBs most costly 444 ammo, over three dollars each,
for the biggest and toughest animals, a cast boolit,

I can make a better round for around thirty cents each, would
use my loads on lion or bear, here or in Africa.

That cast boolit I listed is really a premium boolit, I do have a
340gr LFN GC mold by LBT though, both will shoot around
two inch groups from a 44 revolver at 100 yards, will do better in
a rifle.

This is the most powerful 44 load I know of, over two dollars
each, I make almost the same load for around twenty five cents.

Do you cast and load your own ammo for the 45-70?
It is a super cast boolit gun, in the 1800s all they shot
was cast boolits.

I have a few molds for all things 45 and regular dies and
one of these too,

I made a purchase like that 25 years ago - Only in 10mm. $$$$
That hastened my interest in hand-loading.

Elk, Moose, Bison, Grizzly?
Just making sure I'm prepared in the event that a wormhole opens in my back yard and a T-Rex comes through. :)

Trying to find ammo for the 444 can be interesting. 3/4th of the time Buffalo Bore is "out of stock" for the 300 grain ammo. Since I have the 1:38 Micro Groove barrel I stick to jacketed rounds of 300 grains or less. So when someone has ammo in stock, I buy more than I need. Same for the SuperPerformance 265 grain rounds. From my point of view, you can never have too much ammo on hand. . .

I fondly remember the first time I shot a .444 Marlin. I was HS or just out, and neighbor had a 100 yard range he let me use. Mainly I was shooting .22, .22 mag, and .223 rifles there. He showed me one day the various carry pistols he had, and then he brought out a Contender handgun in .444 Marlin and let me try it. Awesome, it was :)

They are quickly becoming the hog caliber of choice down here, nephew just bought a used Henry and was heading to the swamp this weekend. I'm a little under the weather and decided to stay home but am keeping my eye open.

You make a great point on saving money and getting the satisfaction of doing the work yourself.
For me, it would take to long to cast your own boolits :) and load them one at a time on a single stage press. I'd rather buy the darn things for $200 and go shooting. Now of course, if I had a 444 I'd buy a conversion kit + dies for my 550B and purchase cast boolits and be done in an hour or so.

For me, it's about being more self sufficient and cost, when the ammo
shortages hit, we had no problem.

Powder and primers are a must and really not that expensive when you
consider the full reload, the bullets are very costly, brass can be used
many times, some over fifty shots. Every 30-06 brass should go at
least twenty times, easy, I went 35 shots on one 30-06 brass with
very hot loads.

With a 65 dollar lee melting pot and six cavity mold, five hundred boolits
an hour are no problem, if you run two pots you could probably do
a thousand boolits in an hour. Yes, with the smaller boolits you can
do much more, a six cavity mold with a 330gr 45cal boolit drains the
pot very fast at 12 boolits a minute.

Many don't believe this, we shoot many center fire rifles and handguns
cheaper than 22lr, and if you tumble lube the boolits it can go fast also.
