S/N - FFL

I was doing some research for my neighbor on Sig's. They noted that the S/N was on the firing mechanism inside the frame that is the part that requires FFL actions. I was wondering about Glocks that have the S/N on the Barrel, Frame and Slide. Does that mean that all 3, if ordered independently, require an FFL involvement?

The only serial number that matters on a Glock is on the frame since that is considered “the gun.” You must be looking at a P320 where the serial number is on the Firing Control Unit since the gun is “modular” meaning the FCU can go into different frames etc. The FCU is “the gun” in the case of the P320.

So to answer your question, you can send any part of a Glock slide anywhere you want, no FFL needed. But, the frame can only be shipped to an FFL, and even then, you are required to follow federal and state laws to the letter.

No. Every part does not have to match or be registered separately.

The receiver is the only part that has to be recorded on a 4473 if the gun is purchased from a dealer. In most cases the lower receiver is the serialized part. I do have a Beretta and Sig rifle where the upper receiver is the serialized part.

Thanks for the comments. I do find it ironic that the frame would be the major part as it does nothing. I understand why Sig puts the S/N on the FCU. My reason for asking this question is because I was think of doing the undercut of the trigger guard and did not want to ruin any of my firearms.
