Just curious to see what you guys have stockpiled for your Glocks , other handguns , rifles and shotguns. Also how many magazines are you all comfortable with. Just curious on what you may have compared to my small collection.
I don't plan on fighting WW3, so I have enough spare mags so that I won't have to waste range time reloading. Even though my local range is at my next door neighbor's. It's easier to reload mags while sitting in my comfy chair in my living room.
Made me think of our beloved LT on our Military Police SRT. We asked him once how much ammo we should have. He replies back with “Calculate the absolute most you could ever need in the very worst situation, then multiply by three!!!”
:flag:
If a "Killer Deal" stock up! It'll pay for its self in the long run.
Mag's,3 per pistol works for me.
The .22 rifle, has a limit of how many it will hold.
Back in the late '90s Academy was selling Blazer 115 9mm for $3.86 a 50. I bought 7000 rounds, which lasted me till, Hell, I still have some. Wish I'd have bought 30,000 at that price. Now I buy a K at $168, and think I'm doing good.
I agree, 3 minimum. At least for Glock mags which are pretty much bombproof.
I’d prefer about 6-8 for pistols generally, depending on capacity and price.
Rifles are a different story.
I have 15 for my M1A, and a bunch of AR mags just in case. The rifle is the go-to, whereas the pistol is just there in case the rifle goes down.
I don't plan for the "zombie apocalypse". I just want to be able to enjoy my toys no matter what political craziness happens. After the ammo situation following Sandy Hook, I decided to not be caught flatfooted again. I try to keep a 1 year minimum (current usage trends) for all calibers that I enjoy shooting on hand. Never touch it. Likewise with my carry, SD ammo. Enough that I could use it all and have a couple magazine refills for each one currently loaded.
As to mags? If I ever plan to carry it, it gets 4-5 at a minimum. The regulars get a few more.
5 mags per handgun. And ammo fluctuates for me. A lot of stores have sales right now but I try to have 500 of each caliber (I have too many calibers) so it adds up between them all.
Yeah, I'd say in general if it is worth getting a defensive gun, it is worth getting 5 mags and 500 rounds of ammo.
You may carry or have at the ready for use 2 or 3 mags, and still have the other 2 for beating on in practice.
You may also have at the ready 50 rounds of defensive ammo, and be testing another 50 rounds, and have a couple hundred range ammo you are burning up through a month or so, and need a couple hundred in reserve
Six mags for each defensive handgun and 10 for the AR. The others are at least 3 each. Since I buy multiples of guns I like that translates to “a lot”.
I'm not going to say how much ammo I have, except that its enough to supply the Bolivian army's 3 year campaign into northern Paraguay.
Mags? I just keep ordering them whenever I want my leg to tingle. I am currently waiting on 11 Magpul Glock mags coming from gunmagwarehouse. I still remember the days when it was unlawful to sell new standard capacity mags to the public, and that day will come again. So now is that time to hoard. You cannot have enough guns, ammo and mags.
I’ve been stocking mags and ammo with any spare money I get , a few here and a few there. I have accumulated a bit but will continue to buy as I can. Especially ammo for 9mm , 5.56 , 762x39 and 308. I look at it as an investment that will never go bad and maintain or grow in value. Just wanted to see if there are people that think that way as well.
Still have a few thousand rounds from the ammo grab, haven't bought any in 2 years and don't plan on it until I get down to ~500 rounds. As far as mags go, multiple flush, mid and high cap for Glocks. All other models, 2 or 3 mags.
A good rule of thumb is 3 times what you typically keep loaded/carry. Basically gives you 2 backups. Remember mags are considered disposable, if truly needed/used.
maybe 3000 rounds of 7.62x39, 500 rounds of buckshot, 700 rounds of 9mm, 5000 rounds of .22lr? i have at least 6 mags for most guns, many more for guns that have common/military issue mags
I have about 10 mags for my SP2022. Got them on sale from sig, couldn't pass up the free ship and hat. Haha.
Will soon have 5+ mags for each of my Glocks.
Ammo? I plan to start shooting more, so I have been buying in bulk.
Ammo, I keep a years supply on hand. That is from experience. Been through two ammo shortages. 2008 I was caught short. 2012 I listened to people complaining about no ammo and just went on with my normal shooting every week. If you shoot a thousand rounds of ammo a year have that on hand. If its 5,000 have that.
Magazines, well they pile up. No idea how many I have, but its a lot.
No idea on ammo but I'd guess at least 100 rounds. Mags some firearms only one others a few more. Theres at least three boxes of AR mags in the shed. Glocks maybe 400, 1911s all calibers maybe 50 mags. 22 around 30, 9mm AR mags only 10 but five work in Glocks too. I just sold a lot of mags I had for guns I didn't have.
When I find ammo cheap I pick it up by the case. Tuesday I pick up 2000 rounds because I found it for $138 per thou. Yesterday I had no plans to shoot, tonight I am ready for a USPSA match tomorrow, Next day IDPA, then a two day gun class starting Monday. I always have ammo for the quick range trip/training day whenever I choose to go. I don’t have a lot, I just have enough.
Ammo- it doesn’t go bad so stock up (not horde) when you find a good price. I have been shooting for the past year and never had to go buy ammo in order to do it.
Mags - minimum of 3 for the battle belt and one for the gun. That should work for most classes and events. Find mags on sale then buy them and just put away. If they are still in container they can easily be resold for a profit later.

It's not hording if it is plentiful, haven't heard anybody complain about any shortages in a while. And you are right, lay in a good supply while it is cheap.
I have a good bit of .22LR ammo, including some Mini Mag I bought several years ago for 6 cents a round. I also have a couple hundred rounds left of Remington Golden Bullet I bought in 2014, for 11 cents a round, and bought a grand's worth, so my wife could continue her plinking habit. She and some friends shot up about 3500 rounds in a day, was the first time some of them had been to the range in 6 months. It was worth what I paid, but have replaced it with the same GB at 4 cents a round. Never again.
