Not too surprising. The VP70 is an unlocked-breech blowback weapon. That seems an unwise design for a polymer-framed 9x19mm pistol...or even a metal-framed pistol.

It should be noted that back when the VP9 was out, major powerfactor was 175. Major 9mm wasn’t feasible in many guns. Today, with the lower 165 major powerfactor floor, as well as advancements in powder, more guns are able to handle it.
