$600, do you spend it on a Kimber or a Ruger?

If you had six crisp $100 bills and the choice between a used SR1911 or a used Custom II, which would you choose? Before we start throwing all those DW, and Colt, and Wilson suggestions out there, remember we only have $600 and that won't get you to those from here. ;)

In my house, it would depend on who you ask. My wife absolutely loves her SR1911. I've commented many times, that a target any larger then 3" is waste of paper for her with that gun. In my lower end Kimbers, I like my Custom II Stainless over her Ruger. I bought both, the same day and new gun prices had the Kimber at about $300 higher at the time. Personal bias aside, I do like both guns.

I like 90% of Rugers so, you know.

Plus it is a well known fact that Kimber service is horrid. I don't like the guns either. They are way overpriced for what you get.

And to be completely fair, I loathe the 1911 platform.

You need to find a reputable mental health professional to resolve this issue of your irrational hatred for 1911's.

I have both of those. ruger is the commander. the ruger had the best out of the box trigger of any 1911 I ever handled. I did some trigger work on the custom 11 to get it down to around 4lb. both are accurate, slight edge to Kimber. my only knock on ruger was brass ejection. out of box, it tossed brass everywhere. forehead, top of head anywhere from 9 o clock to behind me. it took awhile, but working with ejector & extractor I fixed it. both are very reliable with mostly SWC reloads.

echo.
if you can get them at the same price, Kimber would likely have a higher resale.
personal experience, the Ruger is as good as, my CMD1911 is better.
if EVER needed, Ruger CS is very good.
depends on what you want, and if you suspect you may resell at some point.
weigh options.
no bad choice here.

I'll amend my response...

I have smaller hands, and the Kimbers really fit me nicely. My second 1911 was a Springfield 1911A1 had a slightly bigger grip! Was hard to manipulate one handed for me. The Kimbers all fit much better!

I competed with both for a while, and went back to Kimber big time after the Springfield launched half of the full length guide rod downrange during a match... and the Springfield had break in issues - Slide locked back on every shot for the first 80 rounds, but man that pistol was just as accurate as the Kimbers!

And... That's why I ended up with 5 Kimbers... Grip size mattered in my case.

Happy Thanksgiving Y'all!

I love my kimber. Paid a bit more than $600 for it, but it shoots so nicely and looks darn good too. I went with a grand raptor.

My father has a ruger 1911 and it is very nice for the price. He has the 4" lightweight model. In fact, I'm still considering getting a full size ruger as a good all around range gun.

If those are my only choices, Kimber. If I just want a 1911, I'd save up $200 more dollars and I'd be in Colt, Springfield Armory, Sig, S&W, etc. territory.
