Looking around for an AR15A4 RIFLE.. a clone of what the USMC has been using until recently.. What's available? Ive found that Colt makes a civilian version (when you can find one), but are there any other available options? Everything these days is the M4gery style and Ive got one but want the accuraccy and extended range of a 20" barrel. Any ideas?
Beginning to think that I may have to build one... Thanks, Dun....

Maybe you can do what I did. I bought and have a Colt "M4". I later bought a never-used Colt upper for it with a 20" barrel. I bought it for service rifle match shooting. .....which BTW, I still haven't done.

That upper was $200 bucks. I think that was a pretty good deal.

Oh...side note. Because I'm in Connecticut, my "M4" already had the traditional stock.

The Colt AR15A4 is a fine rifle. It's also reasonably priced but it isn't as cheap as the M4geries because there are five hundred million of the LE6920s made for the civilian market. You won't find the AR15A4 rifle to be as cheap as you can find the LE6920.

The FN15 Rifle is also decent BUT FN no longer makes it (no sales) and it isn't as cheap as the Colt. You should still be able to find it though.

The other alternative is the FN Military Collector model which is limited run and a lot more expensive.

I think that Armalite still makes some full length rifles.

Aero makes a decent complete 20" upper for $500, with the plastic A2 handguards. " A4" complete lower for $250. The legit KAC M16A4 quadrail is pretty expensive, around $350 IIRC. Swapping that would be the only real work you'd have to do yourself - which is not that difficult. You'd be in it for about $1100 going that route.

Windham weaponry sells a complete 20" Government profile upper. 1/7 twist.

I was lucky and came across a Bushmaster Government contract over run upper. Put Magpul stock and forearm. The stock is A1 length and has a curved butt which is more comfortable for me, at least.
So pleasant to shoot. Always surprised at the noise and impulse of a carbine length gas system.

I'm an old codger; all are preeeeee 1994

1} Colt with thin barrel under the hand-guards and no forward assist, with a Russian 3rd gen military night scope.

2} Bushmaster V Match with Leupold VX-3 3.5-10X40 modified by Premier Reticle, it has the Marine Corps mil dot reticle (oval dots), large target knobs and an anti-reflective coating on the objective.

3}Olympic lower with a Timney trigger and a National Match upper and A2 sights. Used in some high power matches.

4} Sendra, what we old timers called a CAR-15, when riding with the sheriff's dept (78-88) I put tritium sights on it and changed them once, high tech at the time. Tritium is dead now and thinking of some type of dot now.

I've also got 6 finished out 80% receivers and thinking of building a flat top 6.5 Grendal with 24" match grade barrel.

Then again there is always this....

My Rock River A4 has been a good gun. It’s by far my most fired rifle with 6-8k rounds through it over the years. I replaced the extractor at about the 5k mark, other than that I oil it generously every 200 or so rounds and it might get a quick cleaning once a year.

It just keeps going. Might not be built to actual milspec, it it certainly has the look and reliability
