AR 15. It is a lot lighter than the AK, and capable of long(er) range with the 77 grain offerings.
If I thought I would be able to find ammo easily, the 6,5 Grendel would be the go to.
I always seem to forget to get some buckshot and slugs for my 12 gauges, so I can't use them. I'd grab my Sig MPX carbine loaded with 147 gr HST +Ps, and then I'd go for the shotguns with the birdshot I have after that, then after running out of birdshot, then to my Model '94 30-30, and then...
My G32 and Mini-30 would take care of business nicely, it's why I have them! Both rugged reliable no non-since guns, no tacti-cool ninja crap with delicate lights, optics and add ons that wouldn't last a week under real survival conditions.
My G26 and Prob one of my M4 5.56mm, Both NATO rounds and can be found anywhere in the world. Glock prob being the most popular pistol in the world and 9mm prob being the most popular caliber in the world. G26 capable of taking all three magazines and the M4 platform magazines are prob pretty abundant. So if the SHTF to the point of leaving the U.S. i should be all set, even if i find myself in south america.
Just my thoughts

G19 (or GP100?) and SKS (stock configuration). I used to have the AK and still have the AR. If truly SHTF and it is long term, I do not want to have to depend upon mags, when I can just loosely carry my ammo. But I am hampered by the confines of the original question, so G19.
Got a BM Patrolman's M4A3 that I've worked on, a little, and it's turned out to be a good little rifle. Bought it when BM was still BM. Has 4 to 16 power which I think is perfect for that gun.
Colt LE6920 with OD green Magpul furniture because Zombies can't see green.
