G26/G27/G33 Dilemma, Help me out....

I am pretty new to the pistol side of firearms, i have shot rifles all my life and spent a lot of time shooting the M16 when i was in the Marine Corps, but im seriously thinking of picking up my first personal defense pistol. I have just been involved in to many shady situations the last few years that have put my life in jeopardy. Between walking in on a corner store being robbed at gunpoint and drunk guy trying to rob me in the parking lot of a bar with a knife while walking back to my vehicle.

So today i decided to swing by my local gun store and take a look and was aiming more into the realm of small compact i really had a nice feel for the G26, but the store clerk told me that the 9mm round is really a Pu$$y round and tried to talk me into a G27, but after spending some time there one of the guys shopping in the store started talking to me and mentioned that if im new to pistol shooting i should really take into account the price of ammo for practice, but he said to pickup a G33, then either buy G26 barrel and mag for practice or pickup a .22LR kit and practice with it mostly for reduction in practice cost while i hone my mechanics with the pistol i decide on.

My question is this...

1) why did he recommend the G33 over the G26/27's? Is this model like compatible with a lot of other barrels over the others? Im just confused because when i started pricing out the ammo at the shop, the .357 ammo for the G33 was more than the G26 or G27 ammo.

2) Im 6ft1, 235lbs... which model do you think is more tailored for me?

3) Is .22LR worth shooting? i saw a bucket of it at the gun store listed around 3ish cents a round compared to the 35cent a round .40 cheapest ammo they had.

Even though I recommended the G26, I'd say you made the right choice. That .357SIG is one hell of a round. It's going to be really loud and pretty snappy, so be prepared, especially as a new shooter. Once you get a 9mm barrel you'll see a big difference.

You might want to jump on some of this for practice while they have it.

And some of this for carry.

They sell out quick. If you can afford to buy a case, it's free shipping.
I appreciate the info, would you mind explaining to me the benefits of these rounds over others... Ive never really dug deep into differences in ammo yet, when i shot rifles growing up we just shot whatever we had in the gun safe on the farm that my grandpa picked up from the market from time to time, it was never the same.

I did already order a 250ct box lastnight, bought Ventura Tactical .357 Sig 125gr TC for $74.99+Free Shipping online.

The box of ammo they gave me at the store with the purchase of the pistol are Sig Sauer Elite Performance 357 Sig 125 Grain V-Crown Jacketed Hollow Point

Railsplitter is the expert, go with whatever he recommends. When I first got a .357SIG barrel for my G23, several people recommended the ones I linked to, as being quality ammo at a good price compared to others. I just placed another order for some, my 3rd purchase of it. Like I said, they usually sell out quick so I stay on their "notify me" list for it. I also have some of the Sig Elite, nothing wrong with it from what I know.

I'm far from being an expert, I rely a lot on those on here who do know what they're talking about, and like I said, Railsplitter is the one to go to for .357 SIG from what I've seen.

Didn't know that. Damn, I need to get a 33.
Hmm i didnt know the longer barrels worked, but i was told by one shop that the G29 10mm and G30 .45 acp both work with the G33 i bought. I dont think ill end up going that crazy, probably just gonna get 9mm barrel so i can practice for less money with the gun and just shoot .357 sig occasionally once im trained up some on the 9mm...

I am doing research on reloaders, I may invest in one if i can collect my own brass from the local ranges... i know the one just down my street prohibits it.

I just finished a range trip. I brought along my Glock 32 oem barrel for fun. Shot great in both the 27, and 23. With 40 mags by the way.

Glock 23 with the 32 shot the smallest groups at 20 yards.

Glock should really think about a different RSA spring weight for the .357 sig round because it really felt like the slide was coming back a bit too hard.

My Glock is a 3rd generation and I've always wondered why Glock used an 18# recoil spring for the G-19, G-23, and G-32 when the latter two calibers have more power.

I installed a Wolff stainess steel guide rod and Wolff 20# recoil spring in my G-32 and it's made a significant difference in recoil. Turned my Glock from a wonderful gun into a fabulous one.

The recoil is still snappy but the muzzle flip is greatly reduced. It feels like 9mm +p++. Very robust caliber and very manageable.
