Stainless has long been my first choice for buying guns because of its easy-to-maintain qualities and rust resistance. As Drewbpne's excellent work shows, wear marks, scrapes and dings can be polished out to restore original (or better) appearance.
I love my blued and walnut firearms, too. I grew up with blued steel rifles and shotguns and accepted the need to wipe them off carefully every time they were handled. Wear marks and scratches were viewed as signs of 'character'. My penchant for taking excellent care of guns comes from the desire to keep my blued rifles and shotguns looking new.
My shiny stainless Ruger magnum (see attached). An oldie but a goodie, many rounds & years.
