All day, everyday, everywhere for 25 years. I accidentally left the house last night without my my new PT111 [an exceedingly rare occurence], and could not wait to get back home and make things right.
There really is no good reason not to have a gun on you at all times, even its an LCP II in the pocket.
I only carry when I am not expecting to need a gun - which is all of the time. If I expected to need a gun, I would not be there in the first place.
Being retired I only leave the "ranch" one or two times a week. I (pocket) carry then.
In, or around the place, I am almost never more than a few seconds from any number of loaded guns.
But seldom do I have a gun on me when at home.
But like now, within reach are two shotguns, a 22 rifle and five handguns, all loaded.
Not as much as I should. I get lazy just making a quick run to the store and stuff. I should know better because I've encountered issues that could have gone bad. One incident I was outside the mall with my ex-wife ready to park the car at which time the Police locked everything down because of an active shooter inside. So you just don't know who's path you'll cross. Each time you don't leave prepared, you are playing the odds
100% of the time when I’m outside of the house. I feel naked without it... I rarely carry inside my house, but there’s a firearm within arms reach throughout.
95% ONLY BECAUSE SOME PLACES IT WOULD GET ME ARRESTED.
some places that are posted, i keep well concealed. if asked to leave, i would without fuss.
won't risk any possible legal problems. minimize being in those places.
I work at a public school, so I can't carry all day. However when not at work, I carry 100% of the time when I leave the house and where legally allowed.
"It's better to have and not need, than to need and not have." There aren't too many other truer collections of words that've ever been spoken...
Especially in today's day and age, where any-thing can happen at any-time to any-body any-where, it's fool-ish not to carry concealed if you have the ability to do so legally.
Concealed carry not only offers protection of one's self and the protection of others, it also offers the element of surprise, which can work in your favor should a "confrontational" situation arise.
Wife and I carry from the time we get up, till we lay down to sleep and then our respective handguns are on nightstands next to us.
We own our own business, so carry at work is no problem. We don't have kids - so school activities etc... are not a problem. Don't go into "prohibited" gun zones. I only fly 1-2 times each year to visit my parents, when I get off the plane - I am met by my dad with loaded mags for my carry gun that I have retrieved from the checked baggage for the ride home.
We made the decision to always carry back in 1985 - we have done that easily 99% of the time or more, just a way of life for us.
Not permitted at work, so I seldom do. It is locked up within my locked vehicle next to the office though. Rare trips inside the Post Office and jury duty are a no go. Other than that, it's a pretty sure bet that I'm carrying.
I carry +95% of my waking hours. When I'm in the shower or spending quality time with the Mrs, I don't carry, however there's always a gun within quick reach should it be needed.
100% all the time, except in bed and in the shower. Been that way for decades.
My wife started carrying in 1966, she would fly with her little Beretta from LAX to Philly 4-5 times a year. I was in the military and when on month long deployments she would go home to mom & dad. Back then we didn't worry about laws. Of course, things changed but we still carried where there wasn't any xray machines.
Trying to do better. I pocket carry, and take it out when I drive. I've gotten lazy and left it in the vehicle when pumping fuel; have even gone inside for a soda after pumping gas, and just hit the locks before going inside. I've only done it at a couple local places... but local is where I spend 99 percent of my time, so, I'm literally killing my chances.
By law, I cannot carry at work. At a private residence, I am required to inform if I am carrying. I have a couple of relatives with whom I'd rather not even discuss carry, so I disarm at work and at the relatives' house.
"Sometimes" is about as accurate as I can be in relationship to this poll.
I would normally answer in terms of waking hours.
Lots of folks are excluding work or off limits places from their answer.
If we go that route, I can affirm that I carry 100% of the time except whenever I'm not carrying.
Work takes me to schools, churches, hospitals, and other people's homes - all no carry zones in my state.
Personal time often finds me in church or other people's homes, so still a no carry situation.
I don't care to leave my pistol unattended in the car even if secured, so if my travels include a no go zone, then I'm still not carrying.
I'm not sure what's left. 20% of waking hours, maybe? Out walking, shopping, eating, and the rare movie is about it. Honestly, those are the settings I might most likely become a statistic.
We all make our choices and roll the dice. I'm OK with that.
I'm in the 'Less than 20%' category. Actually, I carry on my person much less than 20%.
I never carry at home. I only feel the need to have a gun if I'm headed somewhere that might pose a higher risk than my usual activities away from home. Concern about road rage and random assault bother me most with interstate travel, driving in the city, unplanned nighttime trips for food or other necessities.
I'm quite content most of the time by having a gun in the truck console and at bedside. Rarely is there a situation that truly justifies having a gun on my person.
Given the OP's criteria of excluding home (but where one is accessible): 85%.
Examples of exceptions are:
- Working out at gym, PT, or certain Dr. appointments where it would be "awkward"
- When I am going to have alcohol, like with dinner at a restaurant or at a party
- Non-permissive (legal) places, like Post Office, hospital, schools, or certain events that are checking
- Currently not carrying a handgun when I am hunting with a rifle or shotgun (but then I am carrying a long gun and still keep a handgun stashed in the car during transport when long gun is unloaded!). Do carry a handgun with a bow or muzzleloader (due to single shot)
