One just sold for $1825 and the seller was asking $2500 earlier for this... Guess he lowered his price to $1850 buy it now which I think is a awesome price... only thing missing is the manual which not a big deal and in awesome shape... And this is the first 1000 imported DB serial number... the last one sold was an E serial number and the last of the batch... Damn to bad I bought to many things this month...
I shied away from the one you posted because it was too similar to this one ^^ sold by a user with a lot more feedback. Something just seemed fishy. But the new price isn't bad, that's true.

I bought the ED gun. I picked it us as I don't have one from that prefix. Further, as has been noted, there are less ED Ported guns than the other prefixes as that was the transition to the Gen 2s.
The buyer of the DB gun was the bidder right under me on the ED gun.
I thought that the ED went cheap - actually very cheap - which I attributed to it's being listed as and L and not an L P in the listing header.
I noticed the extremely similar wording as well. The seller of the ED is the owner of the store. I'm guessing that the seller of the DB is one of his guys or someone who just copied the wording of this listing - or vice versa as I'm not sure which was listed first.
I figured that the DB would go super fast at the BIN which it did.
The ED has a 3 day inspection period w/o which I would not have purchased it given the same wording in two ads. When I spoke with the guy at the shop he sounded pretty legit.
W/the inspection period and my CC purchase I feel well protected.
Assuming that it's as advertised I think it was an absolutely awesome price. Same for the DB if that's totally legit as well.
I'll let you guys know when it arrives.
I have been told that 250 of the 1000 guns of each of the three prefixes were Ps. That said, I've not seen a DA ported either. I was told this by Stanley the President of the Glock collectors club. He seems to really know the old Glock history. That said, he may not be correct. Don't know.
Edited: I see that 5906 has seen a DA ported. I hope to find one someday.
Congratulations!! I was in talks with the owner of the DB gun, however, he wouldn't budge from 2500. Then he relisted it on GB for 2500 and I said forget it. I didn't catch that he changed it to 1850 with a BIN, if I would've seen itnfor that, I would have hit that BIN. Oh well....
Shortly after the auction for my gun closed he dropped the minimum bid to $2000. Not sure if the buyer was in contact w him and told him he'd buy for the BIN price at which it sold or if the seller just listed for $25 less than I paid assuming it would sell but once he did it went fast.
The copying of the ad text combined w the no return may well have hurt that auction.
If it's as advertised I think it went cheap for sure.
Thanks Ron!
I also ordered a Gen 2 17 from same dealer since I was having the 1911s shipped to me... It got here today and turns out it's one of the early model marked frames. Cost me $340 shipped
Very interesting that 268 is a Gen 2. Are there that few ED Gen 1s or were they not numbered in order?? I didn't know that such early ED range guns were Gen 2.
Mine is a DB prefix.
I cannot state with certainty that I have seen a DA prefix ported....I was thinking the guy who was asking $10,000 had a DA prefix ported, but I now recall it was actually a non Ported...
It's totally believable that they made both gens in the same block... That's why we need to find all the those unicorns still floating out there and figure out which ones are what types.
The guy Ed who does the SN research has offered me some vague numbers but nothing solid. That said, I've not asked him about any of Gen 1 17 L guns. I'll try to contact him and ask. I'll let you all know what he says.
The other folks there don't seem to know much about the production numbers.
Glockhorder,
I think you are really into something here.
These Gen 1 17L Ported numbers have been elusive to say the least.
I do think it's safe to say it was not 3,000 as was often stated, but less than 2,268 all together.
I haven't fired it myself, but I'm sure it's been fired. The pics probably make it look nicer than it is.
I'll be especially on the lookout for these guns this weekend. I forget now; did someone say they have a DB gun that is NOT ported? Or anyone with a 17L that is not DA, DB, or ED? It may be that the ported versions out number the standard (say 1250 to 1000). But that's assuming the DAs were all standard, the DBs were all ported and they switched to Gen 2 frames after the first 250 EDs--that's a lot of assuming.

Very interesting speculation L.A. Tactical!! I was wondering the same thing - are the non-ported guns actually less common??
Everything that I've ever read has said that a small percentage - generally around 25% - of the Gen 1 17 L guns were ported. Based on what we've seen this does not seem to be the case. Of course, this is just speculation.
I really hope that we see a ported DA and a non-ported DB so that we can gain a better understanding of whether or not this is true.
Well guys, I picked the ED gun up today. Man am I a happy camper!!!! It's just awesome. Totally complete and just fantastic!!!
I feel SO lucky to have scored this one. In all of my years of collecting many types of guns I think that this is one of my absolute best scores - a very rare gun at a low price, complete and in fantastic condition. One possible caveat is that it has an extended mag release which I assume was added by a prior owner. Once I confirm that none were shipped that way (don't think extended releases existed then? I'll switch it back).
I think that the seller's leaving the P or Ported out of the heading and the same language as the other ad issue really helped.
The gun is totally original, both labels on the box, manual, etc. I'm just elated.
I think that these ED ported guns are very rare. Being that L.A. Tactical's gun is a Gen 2 clearly there are not many Gen 1s.
Here she is:
Of note, that barrel date code on this gun is ATT (12/88) while that on one of my late run DB guns (DB 808) is CTT (10/88). Pretty close together.

Glockhorder,
I am very happy for you. You did your research and bought wisely. It has gone to a wonderful home, to an enthusiast who truly appreciates and is grateful for what he has !
Mine has extended mag catch too and it is all original.
I'm fairly sure the extended mag release was either standard or a factory option on the Gen1 17L. Mine has one, and I know the original owner, and he didn't add it.
Thanks so much DJ!! Great to know. In the listing the store implied that it was an add on. Given the history of the gun - that the original owner stored it away and barely shot it - it didn't make sense that he would have added one.
Its interesting that the E is offset from the rest of the SN on the barrel and slide. This is not the case w/my DB guns. Are yours (DJ and LA Tac) offset as well?
I had to dig my ported barrel out to check (I keep a non-ported barrel in that pistol for the rare times I feel the urge to shoot it). On mine, it actually looks like the "E" is in-line with the numerical digits, and the "D" is offset slightly higher than everything else, both on the barrel and the slide.
I find that interesting, as it seems to indicate they used the same serial number stamping machine to stamp serial numbers on both of these very dissimilar parts. I suppose if you had an insert and/or support block for each part that put it at the same height in the stamping machine, it would work fine, and keep you from having to invest in another stamping machine...
Thanks D.J.
Very interesting.
I think that the numbers on all all of my other Glocks are all in line.
