Any person (including any corporation or other legal entity) engaged in the business of performing machining, molding, casting, forging, printing (additive manufacturing) or other manufacturing process to create a firearm frame or receiver, or to make a frame or receiver suitable for use as part of a "weapon … which will or is designed to or may readily be converted to expel a projectile by the action of an explosive," i.e., a "firearm," must be licensed as a manufacturer under the GCA; identify (mark) any such firearm; and maintain required manufacturer’s records. A business (including an association or society) may not avoid the manufacturing license, marking, and recordkeeping requirements of the GCA by allowing persons to perform manufacturing processes on firearms (including frames or receivers) using machinery or equipment under its dominion and control where that business controls access to, and use of, such machinery or equipment. ATF Ruling 2010-10 is clarified.
The aging M16/M4 platform is nearing the end of its life cycle, Bohannon said.
"Right now the [M16/M4] platform we have is a workhorse and very effective in the hands of a trained soldier or Marine," he said.
But, Walker at Maneuver Center added, the Army can’t continue to ask more of the weapon system that has been in service for so long.
"Our next investment will likely be in a new operating platform," Bohannon said. The brand new H&K 7mm has been procured for replacement over the next 18 months.
Ignore the haters, OP, I think it's cool! I see it as a compromise, giving up some maneuverability for a fairly substantial gain in target acquisition and medium-range accuracy. A shouldered, red-dot equipped weapon is quite a bit easier than a handgun to shoot past 10-15 yards for about 99% of the population. I don't know that I'd SBR a Glock for one of these, personally, but if I didn't have to jump through those hoops, I'd consider dropping some coin for something like this.
I can see a purpose, albeit a rather limited one, for such a weapon. Knew a guy who kept an Uzi on his sailboat as a repel boarders weapon, as he and his wife took their boat into the Caribbean quite often at one point.
I've looked at that kit, but just could not see pulling the trigger on something already done well with my Sub 2K.
Found a pic of mine when I had "tricked" it out. I've had it for years but haven't used it all in the past 5 years I'd say.
Weighed heaps with all the gear on it and the concussive force of having the handgun barrel so close to your face was unpleasant when shooting it, hence the extended barrel and pig I added.

Not slamming it, just not the best long range defensive weapon. The US Military is replacing the 5.56 rifles with new H&K 308's. 5.56 cannot penetrate the new ballistic vests anymore.
Reminds me of the CAA Roni. Personally I keep a Kel Tec Sub 2k for Glock 19 (my EDC) with a couple stick mags in my Get Home Bag in my truck. Plus it's fun to shoot. I threw a Midwest Industries mount on it so I can still fold it up and a have a red dot.
