....and ended up with a used one!

Was 1911-shopping for a steel/bowling pin gun since I've been getting into that quite a bit lately. Was looking into some Kimbers, Dan Wessons, Colts, and Springfields. Then I saw two of these in the used cabinet....and ended up buying one.

Les Baer Premier II

It just felt better in the hand than any others I tried, felt nicely worn-in and had pretty much all the features I was looking for. And I got it for less than I would have paid for all the others I looked at except some Kimbers (which I just didn't really like anyway).

Heading off to the range to sight in...then I'm going to go knock over some pins!

Shoots great...I was a tiny bit to the left at 45 ft., but I can adjust the rear very easily of I don't work it out right away. Ran 200 rds, not issues, the trigger break and reset are like shooting via ESP.

They actually had two...from two different former owners. Both seemed i identical shape. This one had rounded outer corners on the adjustable rear sight, the other had squared, and this one felt a little smoother in reaching/trigger. And by little, I mean so little that I could have been imagining differences. Got it for $1100.00 out the door which I think was a decent deal.

Good thing is that it is still nice and tight, but you can tell the former owner just broke it in so it's not disturbingly tight like they come factory new before a minimum 500-rd break-in. What I like about this gun as opposed to the Kimbers/Wessons/Colts/Springfields I checked out is that this gun somehow feels 'smaller' or just more streamlined in hand and when handling. Maybe it's because everything is hand-fitted so precisely, but it just feels do 'set-and-forget'.

Thanks all. When I figured what I was getting combined with mags and other stuff I had to pick up, price and quality-wise it just made more sense unless the Baer turned out to be a dog. Thankfully that wasn't the case through the first 200 flawless rounds I put through her.

Always wanted a Baer going back 20 years.

That's the good thing about looking for a steel/bowling pin competition gun, there are a lot of little things that I didn't have to worry about in terms of concealability/weight, etc. Essentially, there's more I can appreciate about it rather than lament over if I'm not concerned with concealed carry.

Email Baer the serial number and they'll tell you it's built date and original information

Does it say hilsdale?

What pawn shop?

It was a rather large gun shop that I frequent and where I have scored several pretty good used deals.

It's like they know I'm coming....it's evil. :p

It says Le Claire, IA. I just hope the blueing holds up. I tend to eat through blueing with my skin chemistry.

So what is your pin load? Do you have to knock the pin back three feet?

Fore just the basic setups that I've been doing at a range, just normal 230-gr ball has been working for many. It was for me when using as Sig P220 Elite Stainless. If I get into more serious ones, I'll look into what would work best.
