Hello,
I've been reading different threads in the glock talk forum. I find it very helpful in researching different topics regarding Glock. I purchased my first Glock recently.....chose on the 19 gen 4 and love it! I've run 175 rounds through it with zero problems. I really enjoy shooting it.

One thing that I've been looking into is a holster for it. I'd appreciate feedback/suggestions on IWB and OWB holsters that work well for EDC. Thanks.

I'm a leather fan. I have two brands/makes of holsters...Milt Sparks VM2 for IWB and Kramer Horsehide Belt Scabbard for OWB. Neither are cheap and there is a long wait from both, but that should tell you something in itself. I've met many Glock guys who said "Why spend $150 on a holster for a $500 gun"? Comfort and quality is why. Many serious hunters spend as much on their optics as the rifle they put them on. Buy once cry once. Good quality will outlive us. And welcome to the forum!

Welcome and congrats!!! The Gen4 19 is what started my addiction. I don't have a problem or anything.. As far as holsters goes, it is a personal choice but I use the Glock sport/combat holsters. They are cost effective and just work great for OWB.

Welcome and congrats on a fine gun. I've found the FoxX Little FoxX hybrid holster to be a very comfortable IWB holster that can be clipped on just before you cinch your belt. I've been wearing my G19 at about 3:30 with this rig and no complaints.

My only two OWB holsters are not very concealable; one is a paddle kydex from Uncle Mikes and the other is a looped belt holster that will hold the gun with a Streamlight TLR-1 HL attached to the frame rail (a nice setup for home defense).

I would recommend you explore the International Defensive Pistol Association (IDPA) as a means of developing good shooting and pistol handling skills under the stress of a clock. The two groups I know of are in Phoenix and outside Tucson in Catalina. Great people who are willing to share experience so you can learn how to shoot fast and accurate from behind cover, on the move, strong hand, weak hand and freestyle. I've been shooting IDPA matches for about 12 years and my skills have increased exponentially.

Good luck.

Great choice with the 19.
Holsters are very personal. Living in the south, leather absorbs sweat where Kydex doesn't, so I favor kydex.
OWB options are endless and are typically carried around the 3 o'clock position.
IWB is dictated on body type, comfort, and how you dress. I started wearing in the 4-5 o'clock, but I have since went to appendix carry. JMC Kydex makes an awesome product, but I am currently testing out a TRex Sidecar. I'm liking it. JMC is still what I compare all holsters too.

Also, don't be afraid to spend a little more on a quality holster.

Get the Glock OWB holster to start with. It costs around $20 and gives you a basis of comparison. Your going to find it compares favorably to most other OWB holsters.

I like the Alien Gear holsters for IWB.

A holster I like may not be good for you or the other way around. But before you buy something. Think about how you are going to be carrying. If you are going to be taking it on and off several times a day, particularly in a car then get a single clip holster. Trying to put a two clip holster on in a car is a nightmare and doing it daily will get really old.

If you are going to put it on in the morning and wear it all day two clips will spread the weight out more on the belt. It will stay in place better and will not rotate like a single clip will on the belt.

Speaking of belts. Its more important than the holster so get a good dedicated stiff belt made for carry. Nothing is going to feel right with a bad belt. The belt is the foundation that a holster hangs on.

Hey John. Thanks for your reply.....good insight and advice. I looked at the Glock website and it looks like they make a duty holster but it’s for G17/G22/G31 models...I have the G19.4

I did find the “glock sport combat holster” on the Glock website.....is this the one you were referring to?

Yes, the sport holster is what I was thinking of, I was actually unaware of the other.

I started with the Glock sport holster (it worked fine) but found that I prefer my Garrett IWB. Kydex with leather lining, adjustable cant & retention, quality product, reasonable price, includes allen wrench to adjust.

I also have a Falco G17 leather OWB holster which fits my 19 perfectly. Great for colder weather.

BTW, welcome to GT. The G19 is a great gun.

Gssf match in Tucson this weekend- perfect opportunity to exercise your glock and see what holsters people might have
Thanks for the info on the GSSF match....not sure I can make it. I’ll watch the GSSF website for match dates in the area. Thank you.

Welcome and congrats on the 19. It’s one of the finest combat/duty/CC guns on the market. Skip the dreaded holster box and go right to the very best IWB holster you can buy, the Milt Sparks Criterion. It’s expensive and takes about three months the get it, but it will be worth it.

Glock Sport/Combat holster for a lefty.

That is my everyday holster.
I also have one of these for my 19. It is a good inexpensive holster. I like the fact that it is ambidextrous. My only issue is that it does not protect the end of the muzzle from scratches when I am working around the farm, so I usually use my Galco leather G17 OWB holster.

For IWB, which is how I primarily carry off duty, I prefer a Theis hybrid. The man has a solid reputation, turnaround is about two weeks, and you can get it shipped to your door for a flat fifty bucks. What's not to love?

For OWB I like Ryan Grizzle's leather holsters. Turnaround is much slower, the price is higher, and you can pass the holster to your grandchildren.

where are you at in Az? In Tucson there's a custom kydex guy "kondition 1" does nice work. I carry my g19 in a highnoon leather aiwb. with a phlster mag pouch.

however I've got a dara aiwb and love it. I don't open carry Costco and others will deny entry. and it's too frigging hot for a cover shirt here.
