300 blk pistol

Forgive me if I've posted this topic before, but the idea of a 300 blk pistol is starting to rattle my brain again. I've read various posts others builds and a few details are coming together. Namely, 8-10 inch barrel length, optical sight rather than irons, provision for suppressor (especially if hearing protection act passes). One question off the top: is there a minimum OAL for an AR pistol than doesn't incur NFA rules? In other words, does it have to be at least 26" long? The wealth of GT'ers knowledge is greatly appreciated.

Doesn't really interest me, but curious how the bolt and buffer setup on that is like.

Looks like a standard upper, but the lower is definitely not standard. The concept would be interesting for a pistol build with a standard type grip without a receiver extension/ buffer tube sticking out the back.

I like things just as they are.

The Raider is a direct impingement gun. It uses a bolt that is a bit of a cross between an AR only and a shotgun bolt. It uses a link that applies pressure on an action spring in the grip. Think Mossberg 930.

How clever is that! I'm one notch closer to wanting one.

A bit off topic, but FightLite, maker of the aforementioned Raider, apparently makes "featureless" lowers. Looks like they accept AR uppers. Is this this news to anyone else?

The above is my 300 BO pistol. It has a KAK Mr Blonde barrel with a KX5. Barrel is 9”.even with the Law folder, it is too short. It measures 27.5” as pictured. Since the muzzle device is not pinned, it must be measured from the crown to the end of the buffer tube. This gives me a 24.75” length when measured per guidelines. If a 10.5” barrel, or longer buffer tube were used, you would meet the 26” required measurement for the use of a vfg.

Dam faww, that is a real beauty. Is that the Foster or whatever the name is 3 position. Remember when I didn't know what those Magpul mag pullers were that Brownell's kept sending for free. I've got 10 of them now. They keep sending them?

I now have 2 options for my future 300 build. 1) A more or less conventional AR lower with pistol buffer and a 7-8" barreled upper, or 2) the new-to-me Raider. I'm thinking the balance on #1 would be better since the grip is more centrally located (if I'm ever foolish enough to shoot one-handed). If I shop right #1 would considerably less expensive than #2. #1 would be about 2-3" longer overall than #2, with same barrel length. Not a big deal. The mag release is further forward on #2, requiring the support hand to push it or moving shooting hand completely off the grip; not very ergomomic. I imagine shooting #2 one handed would be similar to shooting a Mossberg shockwave, but with less recoil. Not sure if that's a good idea. Yes, I have much to consider.

Looks like you're wanting to build, but I thought I'd throw this out there. I bought one of these a while back, only had it to the range a couple of times, maybe 80-100 rounds but so far I like it.

Looks like it's out of stock, but they have the one with the M-LOK rail (which I like better) on sale for the same price I paid for mine, $499.

How is it to shoot without the brace? I imagine shooting one handed kicks substantially. How about shooting with support hand gripping the handguard? What kind of groups did you get, and at what range?

Didn't try shooting it one handed, just cheeked the brace and shouldered a couple of times. I think I could shoot it one handed if I had to, but it does have some recoil. Only shot about 10 subsonic rounds, the rest was 120 grain supersonic Remington.

First time to the range was with no sights at all, just wanted to get a feel for it a little. Second time was first sighting in the MBUS, then the RD, all at 25 yards. Got them close enough then moved to 50 yards. Can't say how it will group, not enough shots down range yet. Sights need some more tweaks. My range is temporarily closed due to a lawsuit from a neighbor of the range who says shots are hitting his property.

It's going to be mostly an occasional trunk gun for me, and I think it will be great for that. Ammo ain't cheap, so it probably won't get a ton of range time.

This is probably a stupid question and it's not something I would probably do, but here goes. Let's say I have my completed 300 blk pistol with a 7-8" barrel, and for some reason I want to shoot some 5.56. I don't have time or money to get a 7-8" 5.56 upper so I attach the 16" upper from my current rifle. Yes, I could simply use the rifle and shoot it without shouldering, but for some insane reason I want to use my pistol lower with the long barrel. Question is this: am I breaking any laws that could land me in prison?
