I picked up a new G19 gen 5. Generally on my glocks I change the sights, put in a new connector, change some springs, do a 25 cent trigger job, maybe change out the recoil spring assembly, put on some extended controls, etc. Customize it as such.
What are you doing on your gen 5's? Are other generations connectors and accessories compatible? Which ones are and which are not?
I got the Gen 5 g19 MOS. I put the holosun 507c on with blacked out suppressor height sites and a zev drop in trigger. The trigger is still the biggest pain point for stock glocks which is why I switched it yes even on the gen 5. Doing this caused no concerns for the function of the gun and made it extremely better the way it should have been from factory. So many other company’s have extremely better triggers for example my xd elite 3.8 trigger beats glocks trigger hands down. If I didn’t have the redot I still would have changed the sights glocks plastic sites are not great. Please don’t get me wrong I love my glock especially the gen 5 I am a lefty so the ambi slide release is great. I also put an olight pl mini 2 on which is a great light for ccw and the cost is low. This is my main CCW gun and it is amazing.
I feel the Gen-5 is the best generation yet, however I made a few minor changes.
1) I swapped out the Gen-5 sights for Gen 1-4 Ameriglos- so... now POA/POI is exactly like my earlier generation Glocks. The factory Gen-5 "combat hold" sights were my only real gripe with this pistol
So I absolutely love my glock 19. I have a Vortex venom, supressor night sights, tlr8a, and Johnny glock trigger. I got a vedder holster for it and decided that for every day carry with me being a bigger guy it was just a bit too big. Especially in my car which has bucket seats. I was debating a p365xl or 43x mos as my EDC.
I ended up with the p365xl for a couple reasons. I am planning to keep the gun totally stock to keep size down. The p365xl came with night sights, a really nice trigger, and 2 more rounds with 15 rd factory mags available(although the mags are a little crazy price wise, I have grabbed 2 15rd mags to accompany the 2 12rd mags it came with.) These are all things except maybe the trigger i would have paid extra for with the glock. Although I am not planning to put a red dot on I am glad I have the option. The one plus I saw with the glock is that adding a red dot does not require complete removal of the rear sight like it does on the sig. The p365xl is also a little smaller. If I am being honest the main reason was the p365xl came in stock at LGS before the 43x mos. It is also a bit smaller and thinner. I am very happy with the p365xl, I have about 400 rds through it and a vedder holster and compared to ccw with my glock 19 you barely even feel it in your waistband.
My glock is now my bedside and 3gun firearm. Since I have only been at this about half a year I am also happy to have a variety of brands just to get a feel for what I like. My opinion thus far is that glock and sig make really great weapons and you and you can't go wrong with either
I went a smige overboard.
Holosun 507v2, C&H optic plate (MOS sucks), KKM Barrel, Dawson Precision sights, Zev Pro Trigger, Ghost Edge Bar, Wolff spring setup for a 3lb pull, Glock Store Tungsten recoil spring.
Yes, I am law enforcement and no, we are issued Gen 4 17s but are allowed to purchase either a Gen 4 or 5 19, 17 or 45. It has to be approved by the department's armorer and you have to pass the CPOST 50 round course of fire before carrying the gun on duty. The armorer signs off on it and a memo gets sent up the chain for the Chief to sign. Basically the only stipulations in policy for personal firearms is no trigger modification, it must be black and it must be compatible with issued equipment, ie magazines, holster and light.
Most officers at my department stick with their issued 17, that only gets unholstered for qualifications. A few detectives carry 19s and a couple of guys on the team, including the armorer run a gen 5 19. Myself and one other guy on the team run the 45. I contemplated leaving this one bone stock but the changes I've made improve ergonomics for me and don't impact reliability.
I'm one of the unlucky few who just could not find a comfortable grip with the 17's finger grooves but I made due for years. Personally I shoot my 45 significantly better, especially with the undercuts. The stippling is more of a novelty since I wear gloves for the majority of my shift but I like it so whatever. The barrel is also simply because I think it looks cool. I honestly don't notice any difference between it and OEM.
I don't own a Gen 5 and I don't really think they have any major improvements over previous generations except for the elimination of the finger grooves.
But If I were to modify any Gen 5 Glock what I would do is swap slides on a G43x with a slide from a regular G43 that didn't have the stupit forward slide serrations and the same thing for the G45.
I have to disagree on a couple of points. First, I like the FS for more than aesthetics, it can assist with one-handed chambering in the event of an injury. Secondly, the ambi slide stop/release is also beneficial in the event of an injury to the strong hand. Training from the point of one-handed or injury is a viable, realistic methodology and both of those features offer positive benefits.

Frame set with a green rechargeable laser ADE HG54G. I did not expect much but it actually holds zero ok and is usable. G17 slide is on ameriglo tritium night sights. G34 mos slide has a leupold dpp and a set of simple solid black ameriglo co-witness 1/3 sights.
For internals - g17 slide is kept stock, as a ccw. G34 has a jager products steel rod, sets of 11#,13#,15# rsa springs - used now with a 15#.
Impact from a heavier rod indeed feels, it is not 100% imaginary.
Trigger parts are all stock, just polished it according to the 25cent trigger job video. I may experiment with it later.
An ability to swap slides is very nice. Grip - using medium beavertail- love it. Best part of a gen5 design in my opinion.
