I'm also in the market for a .22LR semi-auto and have narrowed it down to one of these two.

I want a nice long 5"+ barrel.

I want a super reliable pistol that will eat anything.

I want it to be very ergonomically comfortable to hold and shoot. (Not much of a problem with .22, I know.)

Any other things I should consider?

Which of these two would you recommend and why?

I'm a Browning fan. I have owned and shot a variety of both brands and several different generations.

I settled on the Browning Camper and tuned it for steel challenge. It now runs CCI Standards for 90% of shooting and is an incredible gun.

fast, reliable, and accurate.

I have yet to find any rimfire gun that will reliably run Remington Thunderbolts, so I don't buy it anymore.

I put a 2x6 bushnell on my Ruger MarkII competition. It's accuracy is amazing. Shoots like a rifle. At 25 yards a dime with cover a 5 shot group with Eley ammo. I had another one long ago and shot great but this one seems to really be a hummer. I got a Buckmark MicroBull and is that ever a neat little gun also. Seems very accurate and so light and handy its like a pocket rifle. My eyes have got BETTER as I've got older. From being near sighted and wearing thick glasses to being able to actually shoot a bit out of my best eye without prescription glasses. I would vote Buckmark if I had to cause of the better trigger.

I have never been able to warm up to the Browning Buckmark. I still own one that I probably need to use for trading fodder for something else.

I'm a fan of the Ruger MKs and own a MKII, MKIII, and MKIV as well as a S&W Victory. My favorite would be hard to choose between a MKII and the Victory.

I think the Buckmark has a better trigger out of the box, but if you put a dot on it for something like Steel Challenge, you have to take the dot off every time you clean it, then rezero it before a match. The Mk IV, fixed the major PIA of the Mk III/II and that was putting it back together after you've cleaned it. I imagine that Volquartsen will/has developed a bunch of aftermarket stuff for the Mk IV, so that fixes the trigger issue, pretty much. Buckmark has a "normal" 1911-ish grip, where the Ruger still has that Glock-like grip angle.

Small differences, so I think, like everything else, just pick the one you like and go with it. Looking at comparative costs, it's not like you're buying a Ferrari or Lambo. If, in a few months, you really don't like it, get the other one. That's one of the reasons why guns are better than chicks!
