I bought my first Glock today. Brand new Glock 22 40 cal came with 2 law enforcement magazines the original box and paper work. I was looking for more info or details if anyone would like to share.
With the availability of aftermarket parts and mods, there might be the desire to mod your gun.
My advice: don't do it. Or if you do, start with sights, then stop there.
You have one of the most used and tested designs in recent handgun history. It's simple and it works. You do your part, and it will do its part reliably.
Only plans I have for it is to change the sights and color fill the lettering. I just finished the color fill about a hour ago it’s going to be my everyday carry.
I have 2 pair of the Trijicon HD, one on a Glock and another on a 1911, both are carry guns. I like these Sights very much, they are very well built, very high quality and have a good ledge on the front of the Rear Sight to use as an alternative for one-handed racking.
For me I do recommend them, but they do have a couple of drawbacks. (1) The top-rear of the Rear Sight is sharp and can dig into your side on IWB Carry. I have actually had to file it down a bit so that it's not too sharp. (2) The price, which is on the high end of pistol sights.
Alternatively, there is another pair of Sights that I like very much for Carry, which I have on my G26. This is the Ameriglo Pro I-Dot:
Like the Trijicon HD's these sights are also very well built, and the front Sight is almost identical to that of the Trijicon HD. The Rear Sight also does posses a 1-hand racking ledge. Unlike the Trijicon it has a Single Dot at the bottom of the rear sight, which I find makes things a lot more simple and straight to the point. It is made by Ameriglo that has a very good reputation for great quality and value. Best of all, these Sights cost about 40% less than the Trijicons. I bought mine from a reputable seller on eBay for $80 shipped.
Hope that helps, congrats on your new Glock 22 and good luck.
Welcome to GT.
As for sights, you will find as many opinions as there sights!
Most folks replace their front/rear with some type of tritium (night) sights.
Trijicon
Ameriglo
XS
Meprolight
Etc....etc....etc...
Congratulations, and welcome! Most of my Glocks have TruGlo TFX, or TFX Pros on them, but everybody has their favorites, lots of good options out there.
Sounds like you have an older made G-22 say a 2nd or 3rd Gen if its correct to the mags.
Feed it, shoot it, carry it. I love mine in my trunk, and my EDC is a G-27.
I’d say grab a light, I have one of those surefire x300 and I like it, get range ammo and carrry ammo, get different sights, I like the HD night sights from either Trijicon or true glo, I forget which, have fun modifying it so you like it lots of options, I like extended slide release and extended mag release (just my preference)
The OP mentioned “law enforcement mag” can anyone enlighten meas to what that means? Is there a magazine with higher than normal capacity (normal in Texas might not be normal in California) or a difference in some other way?
I agree with the posters that recommend against mods. The gun works perfectly just like it is.
LE marked magazines are from the assault weapons ban era which lasted from 1994 to 2004. Basically they are just marked with a statement that says they are for law enforcement and military use only and then has the date on which the ban took effect. They are still 15 rounds and they can still be found for $10 each if you really look.
The G22 was my first Glock as well but mine was a Gen 2. Like an idiot I sold it and have regretted it ever since, that is, until I got my Gen 4 Atlanta Police marked G22!
I added a 9mm threaded conversion Barrel and put on my Mystic X and now this thing is even more awesome!!!
You should do the same. Get a 9mm conversion barrel and some G17 mags and you will have the best of both worlds!
I LOVE THIS WEBSITE! And, Glock firearms!
Where else can you go to find out about a great firearm from members that just give the simple answers you are looking for? No wonder Glock is in ALMOST everyone in the worlds home, car, business, etc.!
The factory sights are often derided as just placeholders, but they work alright as long as they aren't damaged. Honestly I think fancy night sights are over-rated a bit. If you put a light on it, the sights will be washed out anyway. Nice to have, sure.
