I carry Federal 124gr HST +P. I have shot 4 boxes through it in the last 2 weeks, zero issues. Bone Frog Gun Club is where I buy them in 50 round boxes.
I always cite the luckygunner.com testing of popular pistol calibers. If you look at the 9mm tests, you can see some of the 115 gr rounds tested did really good. From that testing, I'd go out and about with confidence carrying them.
115 gr. seems a bit on the light side for SD/HD ammo. I prefer the 124 gr Federal HST standard pressure in my Shield 9mm for SD ammo. Actually, in all my 9mms, including the Glock 17 and S&W 39-2. You can get it in the 50 round boxes at Bone Frog Club for around $18 plus shipping. At the range tho, I shoot 115 gr FMJ for practice.
I've had two failure to feeds out of maybe 40 rounds of Hornady Critical Defense in a year old G43. It seems like the red polymer(?) tip sticks to the feed ramp. Don't know if it's the gun (only has a few hundred rounds through it) or the ammo but it really alarms me. I'm going to try some other defense ammo and see if I have the problem with anything else. I don't usually worry about any malfunctions on range ammo but defense ammo malfunctions are not acceptable.
After 2 problems with Magtech 115 ball having FTE or stovepipe in my G43 and this week in my month-old G19 (which also has failure to go into battery on a Magtech round as well) I now stay clear of that brand. Everything else I’ve fired is 100% reliable. I shoot Winchester, Federal, Remington, Browning and Independence ball in 115, 124 and 147, and Hornady Critical Defense/Critical Duty and Speer Gold Dot 124 without a single problem in either pistol.
I buy this stuff in bulk. My G43 and my G19 eat it with no problems and are both loaded to the gills with it. It's not the newest or the sexiest, but it has apparently proven itself.
I've been using Speer Gold Dot 124 +P Short Barrel and it shoots well out of my 43, 26, & 19. It has been tough to find though for some reason... so buy it if you see it...
I carry Federal HST 124gr std. pressure in my G43 right now because it is readily available and works well with my G43.
I have test-fired over 260 rounds of this ammo through my G43 using 2 factory mags fitted with MagGuts +1 conversion kits, 2 factory mags with Pearce +1 extensions, one factory mag with TTI +1 extension and one factory mag with TTI +2 extension. So far I have not experienced any malfunction whatsoever with this ammo using those mag extensions.
I really want to test Cor-Bon DPX 115gr +P and Speer Gold Dot 124gr +P Short Barrel, both of which I test-fired through my Kahr PM9 extensively and found to function very well with PM9. I know they are still produced, but I cannot find them locally or online any more....
