Do you use a night stand safe?

I am starting to wonder if keeping the gun on the night stand is the safest option. these rapid entry safes have come a long way. Does anyone on here trust their life to one? If so what model and how do you open it?

Thanks

No children in my home. If grandkids are coming everything is secured. Otherwise there are loaded weapons easily accessible all over my abode. I grew up in a home full of loaded guns since before I could remember. In today's society that's a pretty unwise thing to do but in my day we didn't have ADD or other maladies. The thought of messing with dads guns brought fear on me. He didn't play and we didn't push him. Again, it was a different day long since past from the present one.

No. Like the others have stated, I keep numerous handguns at the ready at different locations, and even keep one near me when I'm in the shower.

No children in my home yet but I keep it in my bed somewhere. Sometimes I'm undecided and keep my 19 and my 22 with me!

:couch:
I'd rather have 19 and 22 year old babes with me in bed - and a handgun on the nightstand, LOL!!!

Yes. I use a fort Knox safe. It's one of their 5 button models. I can reach it from bed and have it open in a few seconds.

If I'm the only one home, it sits on top of the safe, but if anyone is at the house besides me, it's in the safe. That's for the bed side gun. I always carry so if I'm awake, I'm carrying.

I trust the fort Knox safes. There isn't much to go wrong with them. No electric locks to go bad or batteries to die. And if you mess up the combo, it's super fast to reset and try again.

This.

Mine holds two weapons plus two spare mags for each. A pair of electronic ear muffs and a Surefire sit next to it.

I have the GunVault, I think model 100. It has four rubber buttons, and I have a pretty easy sequence to open it. It holds one full size pistol and a couple of mags. Lays flat with locking cable. It's pretty stout, and I think you would have to bring it to a workbench to crack it open. Has hex key backup for dead battery, which lasts about one year. I practice opening it in the dark in the bedroom, so I am pretty proficient in getting my pistol quickly. The only negative for me is that its under the bed and I have to reach for it.

I have a Gunvault I put my Glock 19 in before I leave for work and take it out when I get back. I live very close to work and often come back in the middle of the day. I would hate to come back in the middle of the day and face a burglar armed with my own gun. The GunVault is secure enough most burglars would steal the whole thing and force it open later.

I only use V-Line safes because they are mechanical and have been 100% reliable. I did have a Fort Knox shotgun safe that was much heavier steel and similarly reliable, but ended up not using it much. I also just got a MonsterVault for under the bed, too. Is unfortunately electronic with key backup, which is not my preference, but there's nothing in its size range that offers a mechanical lock. That said, so far its been 100% reliable too.

I use a Gunvault like this one: http://www.gunvault.com/minivault-gv1000s.html

When my child was born I could no longer have any weapons unsecured at any time.

I keep the Gunvault on my night stand cable locked through the bed frame. The ability to set your own and that code to include pressing multiple buttons at once greatly increases the security.

It will never prevent a determined burglar from gaining access or taking the whole safe, and it's not intended to. It's to keep your children safe and to maybe prevent theft by a thief in a hurry.

I keep my TLR equipped Sig P220, and three loaded mags in mine. I much preferred having an 870 under the bed for HD, buts that's not ok with a little guy running around the house.

I am satisfied mine. Read the code instructions carefully and set a password using multiple combinations of simultaneous button presses. Most people trying to guess the code won't press more than one button at once, it's not intuitive to do so.

I can open mine in total darkness and have my gun in hand in a few seconds.

I think a lot of people feel this way. A good quality handgun safe can be beneficial and add some consistency. Also, with the Simplex lock you can pre-punch all or part of your code when going to bed so that you only need to turn the knob or punch one or two buttons making it even faster.

Some people store their HD gun inside since it is pretty secure (7GA steel) if bolted down and just leave it open at night for one handed retrieval from a holster (applies to FAS1) making it impossible to grab the trigger in the dark.

I use mine to keep my dedicated HD gun stored in all the time. My kids were grown and gone before I started making them. It keeps everyone's hands off my gun (maid, cable guy, plumber, friends, friends with kids, grand kids, etc.) except me and my wife. I never have to think about putting away guns if someone comes over, especially if unexpected.

Just got one an hour ago. "Sentinella Pistol Box." Because my room mate brought home a 4 year old she was baby sitting. For 4 hours I was really scared, ordered this off Amazon. Best I could justify considering cost and usefulness. Before, I kept loaded G19 and M&P 9mm loaded at bedside in a cramped apartment. Both are holstered and I carry 1 of them always.

ALWAYS secured in my house. I have children, and know a person who lost a child due to a gun accident. Zero room for error, always locked up or physically on me.

I have several safes sprinkled about. My use of the biometric GunVaults was not quite what I wanted, so it is relegated to garage detail, and the button GunVault is in my downstairs office.

I finally settled on using Simplex-style locks (Fort Knox uses these, as well), as they add the complexity needed to keep kids out (but a determined thief with time CAN get through all the combinations, even with the dual button feature, so, like all safes, it is really just a good deterrent!). I have a large safe, but around the house old GunVaults and others still have guns in them, but my primary two safes in key locations for my house are below.

I have screwed into my nightstand and concealed this slide-out V-line safe:

I have a V-line safe hidden in a wall downstairs (mounted between studs and hidden behind a hinged picture frame using a magnet opposite the hinged side for secure closure/concealment while still allowing for quick access). It involved a home-made double piano hinge on one side of the frame with a magnet using the steel of the safe and a bit of modifying a picture frame. I am thinking about adding a similar wall safe setup to my bedroom wall, but have not done it yet:

I have kids. My nightstand has a door on the bottom half. Behind the door I have a Gunvault like Collim1 posted a link to, bolted to the bottom of the nightstand.

A burglar would have to take the whole nightstand, or bust it up, to get to it to take to mess with opening it elsewhere.

I wont use the bio metrics. The Pyxis machines in hospital are like ATM's full of drugs. They use fingerprint scanners. These never work for me. They had to give me a code to get into the machines after I threatened to take a can opener to the damn things.

. I always had the same problem with the Pyxis at work and when I went for fingerprinting for my pistol permit the local PD had so much trouble getting them I was sent to the State Police to
Have them done. Luckily I had a set on file from 1986 that were done with ink not electronically when I got a state job!
