I recall getting an A1 top half from del ton some years back for around $400. The market is soft right now and getting one cheaper than that is very realistic
Brownells has the A1 type uppers, 20" pencil profile barrels (1/12 and 1/7 twist), stocks, triangular handguards, A1 pistol grips, teardrop forward assists, charging handles, BCGs, and rear sight assemblies. All you would need is an A1 port door assembly to have the right look. If you are not worried about correctness, you can just use the standard A2 type port door assembly. They also offer A1 profile lowers and LPKs. You can build an entire rifle for right around $1K using the parts from Brownells.
Model 1 Sales is not retro these days. Not many companies are. Fulton Armory has a complete upper assembly, but it is almost $1K.
