It's been a week of shooting the new Glock G19. I can't say there are any big improvements over the 3 or the 4. The flared mag well is nice, but nothing to write home about. The new magazines are nice with the orange followers. The trigger feels just like a Glock trigger. I would say the nicest feature is the exterior finish, very black and smooth. The gun has a new and more traditional barrel, the Polygonal is history. Accuracy was very good. You get four additional backstraps, two very comfortable Beavertails. I installed the small Beavertail and the gun feels so much better in the hand. No slide bite and recoil is nil. Three magazines and a retail price $50 more than the Gen 4. Is the upgrade worth it? Sure if you do not presently own a Glock. If I owned a 4, I would keep it and wait and see what the future may bring!

The 5th Gen Barrel is different from previous Gen barrels, but not by a lot. It sill uses the same type design used previously, but they have added some high borders on each side of what would be the lands of a traditional barrel.

It is a design I haven't seen before and is hard to describe and get images of. With the older glock barrels, you could take a pick and run it along the of the barrel and not catch on anything. With the 5th gen barrel, when you do this the pick catches on the raised borders.

After shooting my 5th Gen G19 along side my 4th Gen G19, I can say it is slightly more accurate at distances. Inside 15 yards, I can really tell, but 25 and out, the groups stay tighter.

This may not have anything to do with the barrel. You can take two Gen 5 19's, side by side with the same ammo, and it's guaranteed one will print a little better than the other.

There can be no basis for ANY claim of improved inherent Gen5 barrel accuracy without, at very minimum, having obtained the supporting data from the pistol when fired at 25m from a Ransom-type rest. This must be compared with data obtained under the exact same test conditions from an identically-configured Gen4 equivalent. Even then, the results are valid only for the ammo that was used. Anything less is nothing better than rumor and supposition.

A prudent person MUST take frequently-spouted off-hand claims of accuracy improvement with a gigantic grain of salt until the pistol is actually tested off hand in a Ransom-type rest. I've read or seen nothing even close. :)

In 24 years of carrying/shooting Glocks, my Gen5 G19 has the best trigger of any Glock I've shot. So much so that I don't feel I need to do ANY smoothing of it, like I usually do. Maybe there are those that cannot tell a difference but surely can.

I agree, a great pistol but if you have a Glock no reason to run to your LGS. I'll stick with my Gen3 19 and 26

On the 19 finger grooves are a no go for me. Was eyeing gen 2 19's but around here people were asking almost, if not more, than retail for a new Glock so when the gen 5 19 came out I bought one because it felt so good in my hand. Love shooting it, put another 100 rounds through it today, up to 850 rounds. Only Glock I've left alone except the sights and that is because I've always hated factory crappy sights.

I had the groves removed on my Gen4 model 19..different sights, and trigger as well...picked up a new Gen5 model 17..agree with the above, noticeably better trigger..NOT as good as the H&K VP9 I picked up as well..but certainly better than any Glock I have purchased before...will probably leave the trigger as is for now as well..

Not sure of the talk of "upgrading" from a previous Gen 3/4 Glock. If I had either and they were dependable and reliable, keep them. These are not iPhones. Generations might add requested features but that's it.

Example: I also have a XD9 Mod.2 subcompact. It's a "2nd gen" XD9. But the trigger is exactly the same as previous XD9. They just added better grip texture (infamous "Grip Zone"), fiber optic front sight and changed the slide a little. Everything else is identical. It's not a new gun. It's not some advancement. S&W is similar with the M&P 2.0 and Walther with the M2. Slight improvements upon previous guns due to requests but beyond that, nothing major and definitely nothing worth tossing away a proven firearm over.

I waited a long time before the Gen 4's came out, I never liked the feel of the earlier models, so I jumped on the Gen 4 when it was released , I don't have anything bad to say about my Gen 4's , love them all, but my new Gen 5 G19 with Ameriglow night sights is a nice improvement for me, I like every new feature Glock made, being a lefty I really like the AMBI slide release, that actually works without having to use two hands to make it work like so many other guns on the market that say their guns are ambi, and I like the full grip I now get with the finger grooves removed, I find the trigger to be as nice as the upgrades I did on my other Gen 4's, and most likely won't need to do anything on the trigger, it works great, the new barrel is without a doubt more accurate than my Gen 4's, not a lot, but enough to see on paper that there is a nice difference with closer grouping, the new finish is a deep black and very smooth and looks fantastic, the bull nosed slide at the mussel is a nice touch , and for anyone that carry's like me will be appreciated, when reholstering , the orange follower is also a nice touch, it gives me a fast look at where I'm at with ammo, and my eyes appreciate that, and as Slugo pointed out the added grip panels, give the user the option to build the grip to suit their own needs, because the new Gen 5's are now out and on the shelves, good buys are to be had on Gen 3's and Gen 4's, and you can save a few bucks, these Glocks are all good, so you can't go wrong with any of them, I have a Gen 5 G-17 on it's way, also with Ameriglow night sights, but these new guns will not be replacing my other ones, each one of my Glocks are set up for a purpose, and all are good...
