How long until glock fixes the frame to slide fit problem ??

The slide being cut down and cut at an angle for easier bolstering is nice. Why glock left the receiver with a non matching end looks sloppy. Not a function issue , but still sloppy. How long until glock decides to fix the molds and make the gun look like the guy that designed the slide... and the guy that designed the receiver mold had met each other and had lunch... maybe worked out the cosmetic details like a large gun company would actually do ... ???

Tempest in a teapot.

If Glock is producing Gen5 9's with the same frame used that was approved for FBI specs, I'd not expect a change to the cosmetics/aesthetics until the FBI contract run is done ... and, they aren't getting anymore orders from agencies looking to piggy-back off that contract. Making changes to something that's already been approved in a specific contract is a headache.

Also, I have no idea if the Glock engineers have already considered such a change when first revising the slide's front bevel, but rejected it, such as if due to maintaining the angle needed for the accessory rail integrity, or the strength of the front of the dustcover, etc. Dunno.

They've already made some changes to the slide's guide ring, for strength, so it's somewhat odd to think they just ignored the front of the frame.

At the end of the day, it's still just a plastic service-type pistol, so aesthetics are probably a bit lower on the list of priorities when it comes to trying to make everyone happy.

I think we were told last year that current Glock production is now such that they can make 100,000 guns per month, and a frame now pops out of a mold every 70 seconds (meaning about 10-15 seconds faster than the last time it was mentioned, in one of the earlier recert classes).

If the aesthetics of the Gen5/M frame is all someone finds to complain about, things are probably going pretty well for the model, all things considered. ;)

Oh come now, surely you don't think the Glock engineers know what they are doing do you?

Quantico should've been a bit more explicit in naming the thread and describing the problem, because it's obvious that a good number of people replying here don't know what he's talking about. But it's a legit complaint, and it really did surprise me to see Glock put the Gen5 guns on the market like this. It's a cosmetic issue, not functional, but it suggests dysfunction in the production team. And as for the OP question, I don't think they will 'fix' it.

There are some people in the world that would complain if you hung them with a new silk rope.

I don't think I will be getting a Gen5 as I am very happy with my Gen4..... Plus, I don't like the ambi slide stop release lever.

They wont. Why? Because that is what holds it in kydex holsters. Down at the bottom of the holster, they will move around just a tiny bit. This way, people don't have to buy new holsters. I would rather have it that way instead of having to order and wait for a new holster.

You're kidding surely.

I have never really got into the M&P platform. Could shoot it just fine, and no problems working on them, just couldn't warm up to them. Now with the 2.0 Compact, I must say I am a bit interested. Solely for the fact it truly is 19 sized, and it does have better ergos than the Glock.

If it proves to be reliable, and not suffer from any accuracy issues or other idiosyncrasies, it will likely be a real winner for S&W. Might even be enough for me to give them a spin again.

From my understanding, early Gen1 M&P 9mm guns had accuracy issues. That seems to have been corrected before the intro of the 2.0. One thing is fairly certain. If the 2.0 is a success it won't be because M&P spent any money hyping it up before it hit the market. Pretty much word of mouth is all the rollout budget this gun has had.

Yeah I agree, hasn't been much about it from Smith, but the word on this thing has spread big time. I have quite a bit of time with the Shields, and they have been spot on, super accurate, and reliable. We have quite a few officers carrying them off duty even though they carry Glock on duty. I also personally prefer the Shield over the 43 myself.

Has anybody thought to call Glock and ASK them why they released them this way?

IMO they did it to increase their profit margin on the "M" series pistols. Feds came up with what they wanted on a new pistol. Glock builds the "M" and the feds adopt it, winning the contract. Glock makes money.

Glock says, "hey" lets re brand it and sell it to the commercial market. No need to redesign anything, or spend money on R&D, just market it as the 5th Gen pistol and we can make a ton of money.

Guess what, they are making a ton of money on them. At least it has started out that way.

I think that's it in a nutshell. Springfield Armory did the same thing with the FBI HRT 1911 as did Kimber with the LAPD SIS pistol.

HK did that with their beast of a .45 also.

I have no interest in Gen5, so it's not exactly at the top of my problem list. However as long as the pistols will sell well, I don't believe Glock will address such a small cosmetic problem. They still selling pistols with the plastic sights after all...and that is more serious deficiency.

Your analogy doesn't fit here. Panel gap is a condition of mass manufacturing non high-end vehicles. A chamfer on one part and no chamfer on the mating part is just bad/lazy design. Now, if both the slide and frame had a chamfer, but they didn't quite match up, that would be analogous to panel misalignment, and perfectly acceptable in a mass produced $500 handgun.
Fair enough, but it still all comes down to the same point I was getting to.
If you don't like what Glock has done with their product, then don't buy it.

I don't own a gen5 nor do I have any plans to, but there are plenty of folks who will.

What I really did like about the Gen5 was the spacious magwell and the trigger. The one I shot had the best factory trigger I ever felt on a Glock.

Apparently not.
Quantico; you should simply buy a Gen 3 or 4, or a Sig, or CZ, or a Ruger American...
I have 9 glocks and 3 sig 220's and two sig 220 Carry , and a sig 245 and 229 and 239 and 238 ...

Mostly I have 1911's ... my main gun that I love , just bought four S&w shields and two smith revolvers along with hk' s and a bunch of other stuff..

My glocks are almost all gen 2.

So I have purchased a lot of high quality pistols ... I can certainly just stay with high quality 1911's and never get another glock.. but if they get the gen 5 worked out I would like to buy a couple glocks that don't have finger grooves... I think my most recent glocks are from 1985 , the gen 3. G31 is a bit newer...

So I can buy guns without finger grooves and have purchased guns that I like shooting. Is it too much to get a new glock that is 30 years newer that has a decent finish and I can grip without the grooves getting in the way ?? Cause that's what I would like to see.
