Noticed two things when walking thru the gun section at WalMart yesterday.

1. They took the ammo out of the glass cabinet and put it out in the open, but behind the counter. Kinda makes it hard to read the labels.

2. They had Rollback stickers on the Winchester white box 9 mm. Just under $11 for 50 rounds and just under $20 for 100 rounds. That last price is now the lowest available locally at regular price - by far.

If you can’t or don’t want to buy 1-3 thousand rounds at a time go in with a friend or 2 & split an order. Done it several times with 5.56 & tula 7.62 for our toys in AR the tula is strictly for the ak’s & SKS thats what they were designed for. Both my Son & myself are back competition shooting so 1,000 rounds gets reloaded once then sold after inspecting for another reloader. All of protection ammo is factory only, avoids any possible legal problems if someone is shot & possible problems if bad batch of brass, powder etc.... in case of problems with a reload better with practice than protection. Since 1/1 we have gone through 5,500 rounds of practice ammo in .45acp & 9mm by Thanksgiving we will go through at least 3,000 rounds. So we have to buy bulk & reload with luck next year he will be on a team with sponsors. Turned down a spot 2 years ago. Now hes sorry he did since he now works a job he hates for garbage pay and can’t be hired full time as only women get full time

Rational people will realize that most casual shooters don't have hundreds of dollars to lay down in one pop for ammo and order in bulk.
SURE, that is the cheapest way to buy, especially if you can scour the specials nightly and hit "checkout" any time you want. BUT most can't do that.
THIS is where WM comes in. They offer prices that beat ANY gun shop in a 100 mile radius to me.... so good for them AND the shooters that can only afford small quantities at a time.
Its especially funny when its insinuated that people are "driving all over" just to get a box of ammo. WM sells much more than ammo, and I doubt most are going in and only getting a box unless its on the way to the range.... and in that case it isn't "driving all over" for it.
I buy in bulk... and I will buy at WM as well if I notice a decent price when in there for something else.
CHOICE and OPTIONS are a good thing when it comes to all things gun related, and even if a person doesn't use WM, if they have common sense they will appreciate that the option is still out there for others.
How many places in this world can you run into a dept. store down the street and grab a rifle/shotgun and a bunch of ammo? It's great that WE ALL can buy it in the best way to suite our needs, isn't it? God Bless America.

I guess I'm fortunate. There is almost always a clerk at or near the gun case and I rarely have to wait. They will also ring up any other non-ammo purchases that I have. Add in the great prices they now have on 9mm WWB and it's a no brainer for me.

I have been checking online for the Federal alu cased 9mm in 115gr in 100 rounds or more quantity. I have not yet found it except at Walmart, 5 miles away from me. I grabbed my 4th box of it this month yesterday.

A mile up the road is another big box sporting goods store. They were polluted with .22lr yesterday. I have plenty, did not buy any.

It will take quite a while before you save enough money on all the reload equipment you buy to make that happen. You're at .11 a round now, did you take into account the amount of time it takes to reload? Time is money. If someone does not shoot several times a week vs several times a month, it may not be worth it to reload. Everyone's situation is different.

I'm like most guys here, I save my brass but don't have time to reload (yet) because of career and family. I also buy components here and there. I also buy ammo from walmart if I see some that I need/want because I'm already at the store and a box or 2 is not going to set me back. I also order from SGAMMO a few times a year but that sets me back quite a bit more. Everyone's use of ammo and finances are different. I think we all do what's best for us.

The reality is that in many states you are supposed to be paying the tax anyway. So, that is why it works out cheaper on such a large purchase. Might want to check your local laws to make sure you aren't breaking them.

The state is fine with double taxing me on vehicle purchases, so why would I care about paying them for buying stuff on-line? Should I pay sales tax when I buy something out of state and bring it home too? Stupid law.

I picked up as many boxes of 50 rounds of 45 Auto PP FMJ 230g for $4 a box tax free at my local Walmart.

... multiple robberies & muggings. A local shopping area has had over 10 robberies a day since the 1st of July. Myrtle Beach has turned into an extremely high crime rate area. We are at the point that several banks have removed the no concealed firearms signs. Several places are allowing employees to take advanced firearms training. Most CCW carriers know more of the law than local cops. I had one tell me it was illegal to carry concealed in SC and another inform me that civilians shouldn’t carry even pocket knives. The Police for Horry County are not even a constituionally authorized department and they have more lawsuits ...
Sorry to hear how things went bad. The Carolinas are beautiful but the police departments have always paid peanuts and that is what you get. A Sergeant in the military gets paid better than a policeman and have a better retirement too. So why leave the military to go to Mayberry and work with Barney Fife? JMHO ...

Problem is we are getting NY, NJ, OH, PA people applying that have no idea what the law is. Chiefs are getting paid what 4 patrol officers start at. One informed me that he hadn’t even been to the academy yet. They have a year from hiring, but what was funny he actually though PA and SC law was the same, said all states had the same laws. Pittsburgh DPS, PA State Troopers & Ohio State had all refused to hire this person, now they are patrolling in a 1 officer car. Instead of allowing the Sheriff who has the constitutional authority, deputies with training and ability the “Independent Republic of Horry County” allows the politicians to run everything, the county is the only in the entire state that has not abolished it in order to increase pay and officers.
This area is listed as #1 worst in cost of living, pay and benefits. When they closed the Air Force Base in 1993 this area lost payroll of over $20 million a year. They went from a state surplus of a billion dollars to nearly bankrupt when the did away with video poker. I’m selling and moving to a safe area like Detroit

OK I admit it I am a "Wal-Marter", my wife works for Meijers right across the street and I get 10% off there on many things, but...........my local WM is my stop to shop, I know where most stuff is and expect to be wondering what in tarnation is going on when ever I try and check out?!?
I always walk past the ammo counter sometimes I get surprised and buy something behind the glass and buy a bunch after the usual who's got the key routine.
It is what it is, however, I have found SGAMMO.com has good prices and yes shipping like Wal-Mart sales tax adds to my total, but SG has some good stuff wally does not have and I get it delivered to my door usually within three days.
So if 9mm plinking ammo is cheaper and available at WM I get some, if that ammo is as cheap delivered at SG I get it.
I have enough, but you never know?

Still more expensive than having the USPS guy drop a case right on my door, with better ammo, too.

I have found that sometimes buying cheaper isn't better. The aluminum cased 9mm and 45ACP Federal works well in my semi autos. But I also have revolvers that shoot semi auto rounds and found the bullets start working their way out of the cases by the fifth or sixth shot.

Per Federal, this is a known issue. So I have to shoot brass 9 and 45 in my revolvers as the brass cases crimp the bullets better. At least with these I can save the cases without have to chase them down on the floor.

Here is a new wrinkle at the Walmart ammo counter. For the last year or so they have been asking my age when I buy ammo which is bizarre because I haven't been 21 for over 45 years --so I just figured I look 18 to the Walmart cashiers and I'm ok with that. However yesterday when I tried to buy ammo there , they asked to see some form of Identification which had proof of age before they would sell it to me. What next? DNA samples?
