I shoot USPSA Limited with a G-24 and understand that Bob Vogel has modified his mag release to make it more stiff (he was gripping so firmly that the mags were falling out). I am having a problem with mags dropping when I grip the gun and do not want to take off my extended mag release unless I have no other choice. Would anyone know what Mr. Vogel did to his gun to stiffen the mag release? I know I can just remove the extended release, but I am sure there is someone that has knowledge of this or has an idea. I would greatly appreciate any help.
Don't know about Vogel, but to my thinking, changing the mag release won't make a difference either way. All the mag releases use the OEM (straight) spring so THAT would be the part needing change. Are heavier mag release springs available? I really don't know but I also know this is the first problem of this type I've read here. Might Wolff have one? https://www.gunsprings.com
I don't think so. The hole that houses the straight spring steel piece inside the mag housing can only hold a specified diameter. Since that part is already installed, I have difficulty imagining anyone making one that is more stout at the same diameter and length.
You could drill out the hole in the frame to accept a larger spring diameter, or have thumb reduction surgery to clear your aftermarket over sized release. Why not just put the stock one back in? I mean are you about to break out of Master into GM?
I dealt with this as a production shooter, and went to the standard catch. It takes some work, but that is a better solution for production. If I was setting up a Glock for limited, I'd use an aftermarket catch, with a pad. That is much better than the 1981.
I have my wife rub your mag release, that will soften it up for sure.
