This past Saturday I was at a gun show in York PA. I ran into a vendor that had Lone Wolf 40-9 conversion barrels. Stainless steel, threaded for $137. This was a surprise but a welcome one since it saved be about $45 by ordering online.
Today I fired the G22 with just the conversion barrel. No other mods, no new springs, no ejectors or extractors. Magazines are Glock OEM that I licked up used. Ammo was assorted to what I had on hand.
Ammo included Winchester WB 115g, Remington 124g, Federal Hydra Shocks, and assorted loose ammo that was over 15 years old.
There were no malfunctions of any sort. Over 150 rounds fired. The older stuff had accuracy issues, but the relatively new ammo was grouping very well. All shooting was done at 25 feet which is the range's minimum distance. I mixed it up with slow fire and double taps. Wound up with 3 inch groups. The old ammo produced a bunch of flyers and opened up to 5 inches.
I am extremely pleased at the results. Like I said, no malfunctions of any sort.
That's been my experience with LWD conversion barrels. Drop it in, use the appropriate mag and let fly. I've never seen one yet that didn't work well. And they've all been plenty accurate, too.
I too had to polish both my Alpha Wolf barrels feed ramps for reliable feed. My 40-9 conversion for my G35 runs flawlessly, I even use my 40S&W magazines with the 9mm conversion barrel, works great.
My G35 conversion barrel is in a Gen 4 G35. I actually swapped all the bits and tried every permutation and combination, 9mm extractor (LCI and non LCI), 9mm SLB (both), 9mm TMH, G17 mags, etc. The only difference I experienced in all the different modes was ejection patterns, no failures, just pattern changes. The gun runs best with just the conversion barrel, go figure.
I was just looking at a Alpha Wolf barrel for my G23 today. The Alpha Wolf is fairly new from what I've read so I'm a little hesitant after hearing people have needed to polish feed ramps. For those that had problems, did you also change to the 9mm RSA? Lone Wolf advises to do that.
What is the advantage of the Alpha Wolf over the other style of Lone Wolf besides it being black?
Great point I forgot about that, I do run the G34 RSA with my AW 40-9 conversion barrel in my G35. The G35 RSA works, but maybe a little stiffer, ejects cases too close to me.
I frankly don't see any difference in my AW and previous LW barrels besides aesthetics. There might be some upgrades in case support for some of the straight wall calibers (my aW G42 barrel doesn't smile UW +P loads while my G42 OEM barrel smiles every single case). Just eyeballing them, I would say the AW is better in this area than my LW barrels I have owned.
The coating on the AW barrel is very abrasive (at least mine were) and I absolutely had to polish the feed ramp before they would feed (about 5 minutes with a dremel felt tip and some Mothers polish).
If I had to choose I like the older stainless Korean-made barrels offered by LWD. They literally dropped right in and we're ready to shoot, no polishing necessary. But from what i see it looks like LWD is phasing those out and switching over to the Alphas.
I have two of the older style barrels for my G29. An extended barrel and a 10-40 conversion barrel. I don't recall ever having a single issue with either one.
ChrisMD: LWD barrels are easy to identify. Old style Dasan manufacture have the wolf head located on the top, LH side or on the lug. They were available in silver (stainless) or black oxide. The current Alpha Wolf line is US manufactured and engraved AW on the LH side only, fluted & Salt Bath Nitrate finished (black). If you have a fluted unmarked barrel with QR code on the bottom it is counterfeit Lone Wolf.
BTW: There should be no reason to exchange any other part. Drop in our conversion barrel and have a blast. There is no difference between a Gen3 17,17L,22,24,31,34,35,37 RSA
I realize the irony in my statement but yah sure, counterfeit is a thing. LWD offers a replacement barrel for your Glock pistol. LWD has a reputation of producing quality products at an affordable price. If ChrisMD was told he was getting a current production LWD barrel and forked over $137 for it...... he got ripped off.
He did not get a current LWD barrel. The old ones sell at $89 to $110
I got some counterfeit Hornaday AMAX bullets once. Packaging looked legitimate, the bullets were just screwy dimensionally. I called Hornaday Tech Support and after a few questions, he verified my date code didn't match the packaging. Counterfeit bullets at like $30/100...

At work many, many years ago, I responded to the report of possible counterfeit currency. When I arrived, I met a cashier who handed over a $1 bill that she claimed "looked funny". My partner rolled his eyes and walked away. He said, "If anyone wants to know where I am, tell them I went home to mint me some lead dimes."
Anyone who recognizes my posts (and I don't know why anyone would) knows that I have had issues with LWD products and don't really recommend them... however, that's not my point; and I'm not trying to disparage your stuff here. My point is that it probably costs nearly the same to knock off an S3F or ZEV barrel at a higher profit margin than it would to create a counterfeit LWD barrel that sells for substantially less at retail. If someone was going to all the hassle, expense, and risk of illegally knocking off goods, it seems like a poor business model not to go after the $$$ offerings. Not saying that you're wrong (or that someone out there isn't producing fake small denomination bills)... just that it's weird.
Like $50 Rolex watches? Notice I never said, "clever" knockoff experts..
I was absolutely stunned when the Hornaday guy said they were knock off bullets. One thing I swore though, I never bought any reloading components from that retailer again.
If it is fake, and it works fine, then I am cool with it. Like I said, no issues. The ramp was polished. No FTF or FTE. So, do I waste time lamenting the barrel, or do I keep shooting it and report if there are any issues that pop up? Keep shooting sounds about right to me. Too many other things to worry about that are way more important.
