There are pictures, though not very good ones.
Yes, I was shooting reloads, my first test batch of 147gr subsonic.
I don't think I double-charged a cartridge but I dunno what else may have caused this. Maybe bad brass? (I'm using mixed range brass, once fired.) I would expect a double charge to do more damage. Perhaps someone can tell me more about what damage to expect from a double charge. From the photos, does this look like a double charge?
The back of the casing blew out, taking the magazine with it. The extractor broke. The deformed brass stuck in the breech making it difficult to take the weapon apart but I got it eventually. I used a fiberglass rod inserted from the muzzle end to try and remove the brass so I could move the slide to remove it.
Only half of the casing was removed by the fiberglass rod. The other half stayed in the chamber and took more fiddling to get it out.
Inspection did not show any barrel bulge and with a new extractor, it cycles normally. I have yet to get to the range to test it.
All comments and insights will be appreciated.
