When I first saw a G26 I said "what an ugly little brick". Years later After several Glocks added to the collection & particularly liking the G23 I got a good deal on a never shot G27. For some reason I like the .40 over other rounds (have a G19 & G43 plus some non Glocks). The G27 will get some belt time along with the go to easy to carry G43. Ugly as she is I can shoot it as well as my favorite pistol the G23 but easier to conceal.
I saw my first Glock in about 1989 and thought it was the ugliest thing I'd ever seen. My friend who was working at the LGS at the time was bragging on how reliable it was, etc. etc. and I kept saying it was ugly as homemade sin and who would want the thing. By the mid 90's they were so popular I had to try one of the fugly things, now I love their reliability and simplicity to me they're like some dogs you see so ugly they're cute. G27 is my EDC and has been since 1996.
Actually did not notice that. I think the feel of a shorter grip tricks you a little because I always feel like the G19 sinks more in to my hand. Maybe I've just grown use to the G26.
I have a G27 Gen4 also. I like reading how people train with that .40 and thank you. I have added an conversion barrel of 9 mm, plus it had to have conversion recoil spring of 16 lbs. instead of the 18 lbs. that the G27 has. I added the 2.5 weight tungsten steel recoil spring to eliminate the malfunction that was caused because of the heavy 18 lb., the 9 mm round is a little less power than the .40 cal. Please do not under estimate, the 9 mm is one of the BEST in all grain sizes. The practice of a 9 mm is easier in COST and you can use 115, 124, 135, 147 with ease. Recoil is a breeze and your muzzle will not lift when you learn it's need of control. Then you have 2 GLOCKS for less money. SAVE!
I like shooting 40 rounds, I have a lot through my favorite Glock the 23 that rides in my truck mostly. I shoot a lot of 9's, mainly in my 43 I carry often, my 27 will split time with the 43. I'd like to try a 357 sig barrel in my little fugly. I like some recoil. 10mm sounds like a fun cartridge but will require another Glock purchase in the (near) future. You are right though the 9mm is cheaper.
I really couldn't warm up to the FDE on my vickers 19. I love the RTF texture and everything about the gun except the color so I traded it for a gen4 32 today. Gen4 grips fit me better anyway. Sights and gun should be in Friday. I do not think 26,27,33 are ugly they just look serious.
Great. I use a Bigfoot steel core belt and a TT Gunleather Mikes Special IWB holster. Everything works together to perform perfectly. I can wear 12-15 hours a day and hardly notice it's there. No printing at all. I'm a huge fan.
My G33 is the only glock that just feels completely right in my hand (G41 is very close and G30 is pretty close). The hump at the bottom of the short grip fits me very well. I see that a lot of you guys have extended magazines or grip extensions but I don't like those at all. My only problem is that the fat magazine makes it tough to toss an extra one in the pocket.
One reason I got the 27 to carry over the 23 was the reduced grip length. My 27 was never fired when I got it and came with a ported barrel, 4 mags. W/pierce pinky extensions installed plus a fun stick. First thing I did was put the shorter stock barrel back in & remove the pinky extensions. I'm not knocking those who choose to use them & mag. Extensions, to each his own. I think the grip prints the most with the way I carry & dress, like to keep it streamlined & not wear xtra big clothing in warmer weather. If I print in a t shirt I fallback on the invisible 43. 27 is new with not much belt time. I will do extra 2 finger grip practice to make the system work for me.
Quite often the best wives are average lookers. The best dogs are Heinz 57 mutts and the best hand guns are chubby little Glocks. I keep my Berettas for their looks and feel. I carry my G26 when I want absolute reliability in a compact size. Then again, I think a Gen3 G30 is an absolute beauty!
Mine is so fugly it broke the camera AND crashed photobucket!
It's a G27 with FDE lower and a holster-worn upper. Converted to 357 Sig. Also have the original 40 S & W and a 9mm barrel and mags. No internal mods; a HYVE extension for the mag(s), a Hi-Viz fiber optic front sight and stock rear Shoots 1" at 7 yards and 1 1/2" at 10 yards.
"I have been thinking about the sig barrel. How do you compare it to the 40 barrel? I know the shells are high price. "
I have Storm Lake and Alpha. The Alpha is in my G27 and the Storm Lake is in my G22. The G27 is very accurate with Sig Brand ammo 125gr (1" @ 7 yards and a hair larger @ 10 yards); the G22 is equal to the OEM 40 S & W barrel in the G22 (It is threaded and has a compensator). Difference is recoil is not noticeable (Been shooting 50+ years, so anything below 41 Mag and above 22 feels pretty much the same to me)==the G27 feels about like a 4" hot 38 spl to me.
Ammo price for 357 Sig is coming down and there is a pretty "hot" discussion on another thread here but I buy Underwood (for my 10mm) and Sig or Hornady for my 357, 40 and 9mm. Prices are comparable at Sportsmen's warehouse near me for the 40 and 357 Sig and you can get the 357 Sig ammo cheaper at some places.
The G-27 is a lot of power in tiny package. It stings my hands and is no fun to shoot for a long time. The G-29 is even more power but the slide is a lot heaver and making the 29 more of a pleasure to shoot than the 27.
26/27's are ugly, indeed. They are awesome though.
