10mm vs. 357 Sig - which is louder?

I had a brief affair with .357 Sig a few years back but I've never shot 10mm. It was a little louder than 9mm and .40 but not horribly so, certainly not like a Magnum revolver load. Where does 10mm fall in the loudness spectrum? I would assume soft 10mm loads are similar to .40 but what about full power loads?

Full power 357sig are really loud. The 10mm in full loads, not close unless you are loading say BlueDot.

A lot will depend on the loads you are shooting, the bullet weight, the powders, etc.

Loading a very hot 10mm with some light bullets and a max charge of Bluedot or Longshot, it is very loud, louder than most 357 SIG loads.

Run of the mill 357 SIG and run of the mill 10mm, probably 357 SIG.

Yeah I could see 135gr over Bluedot or Longshot as rivaling the 357sig. Barrel length will also have a huge affect. I know that my P239 with full power BlueDot loads will have you thinking I am shooting a canon.:alex:

I've never loaded the 10mm with lightweight bullets but even the hottest 180 and 220 grain Underwood loads don't seem that loud.

Having shot both with different ammo I'd say the Sig is louder. But I'd be interested in finding out what the actual decibel levels are. The 10mm is loaded to slightly lower max pressure, 37,500 vs. 40,000 for the Sig and pressure has a lot to do with it.

I like the math stuff rather than personal impressions when it comes to things like this.

I enjoy going to the range with my Magnaported 300 Weatherby. We have some members that like to shoot falling blocks in 45-70 and their boom throws those of us on the pistol line off. It's fun to watch them jump when the 300 goes off.

357 mag is the loudest by far, louder to me than 44 mag. 10mm is a large boom more or less depending upon on bullet weight and velocity. 357 sig is not louder but maybe more of a crack. I have zero scientific data to back up my opinions. I only shoot outdoors and the 357 mag can hurt my teeth and ears with protection. 10mm and 357 sig are not a big difference outside with protection from 9mm, IMO.

357 Sig, 40 S&W, 10mm & 45 ACP all sound about the same (how loud) to me.
9mm is quieter.
357 Mag louder with the crazy .500 S&W Mag and the like even louder yet.
SBRs in the next lane at the range can be devastating.

Rented 10mm and own multiple 357 Sigs.
For me, the sound, flash and concussion is greatly exaggerated.
