Being one of your Northern cousins, I own a Colt Diemaco SA15.7. That's the Canadian civilian version of the C8 carbine the Canadian Army uses as well as a number of Special Forces including the British SAS. However, I'm considering adding a Smith and Wesson M&P Sport II as its such a good price at $759 Canadian.
Does anyone here own one? I've done a bit of research and can't find anything bad about them for being a lower priced AR. I'm just about to press the switch to purchase.
You mean the Magpul MOE OD Green furniture? Yes, I've found two shops locally that carry it and have purchased it, although haven't received it yet. It's going to be fun to upgrade the new Sport II.
I picked up a generic two point sling for it yesterday at a local firearms shop who were doing a customer appreciation day, as well as having a Canadian militia information booth and displays of WW2 equipment including vehicles. It was very cool. But, I like BC42's idea above, and will check the Magpul MS4 sling out.
I use a Magpul MS4 sling (Gen1) for both my ARs. If you don't have QD points, MS3 has clips. I have a Fortis and BCM end plates with QD and both rails have QD. Fortis is aluminum and BCM is steel.
I thought about what you said and bought a Magpul MS4 Gen 2 sling today for my S&W. All the rest of my Magpul furniture arrived yesterday, and the Mil-Spec Magpul MOE SL Carbine Stock has a QD point built in, so it's a perfect combination. Thanks, again, for the heads up. I love it.
It's very gratifying to read about your own experience. I'm very happy with my choice to purchase a Sport II. I picked up a Magpul M-LOK fore-end in OD Green this afternoon, and am just waiting for the rest of the Magpul OD Green furniture to be delivered via good old Canada Post. In the end, the carbine will look very similar to my Colt Canada Diemaco C8. I know I'll have a lot of fun with it.
The MS4 is a great, simple sling. I've tried a few others but the MS4 is my goto now.
You might want to look at a QD end plate too. It's very helpful if you go single point. I have an ACS stock with a QD (Same place as the SL) but the rifle hangs too low if I use it. Single point goes on the end plate, standard sling mount goes on the stock and rail or end plate and rail.

Thanks, I'll certainly check it out. I'm 6'2 and adjusted the sling so it works well and doesn't hang too low, but I think I might want the QD point in that end plate position.
Hey! I'm no midget at 6' . The end plate point makes the rifle more manageable than when it's on the stock.
The end plates are mostly the same. I got the Fortis before I knew it was aluminum. I don't use my sling on that AR so it's not really an issue. My other AR has a steel one from BCM but Noveske, Magpul, DD, etc all make one and they're all about $20-30.

LOL! My son is 6'6". Even after all this time it's funny to always be looking up at him when we speak.
I watched a few videos on Youtube today about single-point slings. More than a few people commented, if you let your gun fall with a single-point, it often times goes right to the middle and hits you right in your junk. One wag who experienced this several times said he thought the single-point design must have been dreamed up by an angry feminist. Hehe!
Catch fish with his mouth? Sorry, you lost me on that one.
Yes, I imagine it all, like everything firearms related, comes down to training when using a single point, but I think the guy who said it was a former SEAL.
There's a lot of guys that mention it falling into your crotch when using a single point. It takes a bit of practice but I think it's better than using 2 points.

Good price, shoots well, no malfunctions, does everything like it should. Just changed to an A1 pistol grip, 3x Nikon, and a Blue Force loop sling.
Not a real proficient marksmen, but this thing makes me look a little more like it. It was a toss-up between it and the Ruger. I'm glad I got the S&W.
Now I'd be kind of leaning towards the Expanse, but getting anything made by those folks is kind of like a winning lottery ticket or something.
Kind of interesting; I was looking at the High Power rule book last night, and the "Sport" probably wouldn't be legal, and the Sport II would. It has the forward assist and port door.
I'm sorry to hear that. I hope you find something you like quickly. When the right time comes, you'll really like the Smith and Wesson Sport II. I just installed a Radian Weapons (formerly AXTS Weapons) ambidextrous Raptor charging handle in mine this morning. It's really a nice addition. Smooth as silk.

The CMP (Cvilian Marksmanship Program) rule book? Hadn't noticed that, interesting. I'm still shooting M1 Garand there, but eventually will be doing hi po.
I had the MP 15 . Great rifle also owned a bushmaster. If I get another AR it would b the prickly or the MP 11. I'm a pistol guy and a cheap AR gets the job done for my little bit of rifle fire. I just wish KRISS would lower their prices a bit..seems most all gun makers are lowering the prices now that the fear of loosing the right to own guns isn't all ways on the front burner like it was with oboma in the White House.he was responsible for more gun sales than any other reason in history. Imho
It's a very sweet handling and accurate carbine. I am very happy to own it and consider myself lucky. There weren't a lot of them made for the civilian market in Canada.
That's a strange barrel profile used on that carbine. Don't really see barrels profiled like that here in the US.
Have any idea what is weight when compared to a standard (Govt. profile) barrel?
As far as I was told, it's the exact same C8 carbine the Canadian Army uses except for being semi-auto and lacking a C79A2 telescopic sight (Elcan SpectorOS3.4x). The information about barrel weight you're seeking may be available on the Colt Canada web site.
"However, is the Expanse really a Colt, or more specifically, how much of the Expanse is really Colt? Christopher Bartocci, former Colt technician, thinks the answer is “not much”."
It is what it is, at one time long ago colt was the berries. Now not so much. If I upset the little pony lovers crowd too bad.
