My apologies if this has been discussed in a previous forum. Wife, mini-me, and I are leaving for vacation in PR tomorrow morning. I did some research and found that being a US territory, US federal law applies (HR218) AND trumps any local law that requires CCW. As I understand, PR requires a CCW to carry but as I'm interpreting section 921, chapter 44 of Title 18, "the term 'state' includes the District of Columbia and the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico. I take a gat wherever I go and always check it with the baggage-never had problems on that end. Anyone familiar with how local guys are down there? Friendly? I understand crime is a problem. We won't be going to any shady areas but rented a car to leave the resort if we want and make the 45 minute drive to and from the airport in San Juan. I would very much like to avoid smoking any thots while I'm there (agency/language barrier/legal nightmare...not to mention muh vacation) but when it comes to family, I'll (just like anyone else here) drop frags like mix tapes up in that biatch. **disclaimer, my wife planned the trip and chose the location. I almost didn't post this but I noticed there was so much back and forth BS on other LEO sites that discussed the issue. The law seems black and white to me...figured I'd poll you guys so as to avoid picking up my bag and getting dick punched by a bunch of dudes with boonies and jungle boots. Sorry for such a late post...I'll check back on here in a few hours.

UPDATE: Ended up getting ahold of an old friend who's went on from local land to an alphabet agency. Definitely glad I decided to pack a full size G21 with mags. Apparently, they don't play around down there. Said the locals avoid gringos since most don't speak the queens english but either way, you're good with a shield. He mentioned that it's very "mad max" when it comes to driving so that trip to the resort is gonna be...interesting. He said at night (not that I'll be driving then), red lights are like stop signs or just plain disregarded...good to know.

My wife and I went to San Juan a few years back for a kid-free trip. It was nice and will definitely go back someday. If you're still on the island, check out a night excursion with Kayaking PR to Laguna Grande in Fajardo. A hike in El Yunque is definitely recommended too!

PR is the US; carry accordingly.

If Camden had a beach, palm trees and nice weather, I wouldn't vacation there. I wouldn't leave the reservation if I did.

My vacations consist of my trailer down the Jersey Shore, an hour from my house. Cape May County is one of the few Red Counties in this state, and with the exception of some parts of Lower Twp and Wildwood, a nice area. That said, my 642 was on me at the beach at Corson's Inlet yesterday as my 14 year old failed to catch a keeper flounder. And if any errant savages decided the fat guy in the beat up jeep with a 4 day shadow on his fat face was a good victim, he'd be instantly educated to his errors, and subsequently choppered to ACMC/Trauma.

Well, made it home safe and sound. Had a great time unless you count losing your phone while scuba diving. No issues with carrying and I'm glad I took it! We only left the resort a couple times. Once to go hiking in the rain forest where there were some awesome waterfalls...although if I knew the hike it was going to be...I would have told my wife NO...because I obviously had to carry the toddler...literally up a GD mountain. We also left to go to the third world wally world which had a guard tower in the middle of the parking lot. Like I said, once you leave the resort, it's pure barrio. There is ZERO regard for the rules of the road...good to know. On the 45 minute drive from the airport in San Juan (you've seen it if you've ever seen Escape From New York-minus Snake of course), people were doing 30 in the hammer lane, others zig zagging and passing at 80 in the slow lane, and some people just driving on the lines...incredible. As a traffic guy, this killed me. We must have passed upwards of 30 marked units along the way to include almost being run off the road by an unmarked convoy of motors and suburbans. That place is definitely the wild west of LE. The resort was incredible..views, activities, etc...we will definitely go back!
