for some reason my 512 does not turn on with disposable alkaline batteries. it works fine with rechargeable NiMH batteries. the new alkalines have an exp date of 2025 and they work fine on my flashlight.
Something is wrong, I would call Eotech . I have had mine for years and only used alkaline batteries. No issues not even " thermal drift". It should last longer on lithium batteries but should work with anything.
I remember hearing that the battery cap or contacts had issues on the 512. That's why the newer models have the batteries perpendicular to the recoil force.
Maybe contact EOTech and get a replacement cap? Or take advantage of their buy back and get an XPS or Holosun 500 series (same reticle). I recently got a HS503CU and like it a lot.
Looks like it ended 3/23/2017. I would still contact them about the battery contact issue.
