The LGS just received the guns. I've seen pictures and vids, but this is the first time I put one in my hand. I've owned a PPQ M2 so the ergonomics and operations are familiar, in addition to using the same mags.
Going to the gun shop intending to give the Sig P320 X-Five a closer look, instead I came home with the 9mm Walther Q5 Match. It's the competition version of the striker fired PPQ with a 5" polygonal rifled barrel, FO front sight and adjustable rear. The slide is lightened with forward milled ports and the rear features a cover for red dot mounting. Included with the gun are three mounting plates for popular optics. The trigger breaks at about 4.5lbs and the reset is very short. (3) 15rd mags are shipped with the gun along with sight adjustment tools. Slide stop controls are ambi and the mag release can be installed on either side.
It's hard to beat the ergonomics of the Walther for my hand size. It's a very comfortable and easily controllable pistol. While the X-Five has nice features and larger mag capacity, all and all the Walther is better suited for my needs. I'll take it to the range this weekend and see how it shoots.
I like the PPQ handgun a lot and added a Q5 to my other two Qs last fall. I had planned on buying the regular 5" PPQ but bought the Q5 instead when I saw the excellent adjustable rear sight and plates for several different red dot sights. I have over 1500+ flawless rounds through it so far.
I'm prone to buy, try and often sell polymer framed striker fired handguns. I like some enough that they fall within the keeper-never-sell category. My three PPQs are all keepers. As an added benefit, I think the Q5 is hands down the coolest looking polymer striker made. But that's just me.
OP, congratulations on your Q5. Shoot it in good health.
It's great to hear the Q5 Match is meeting its performance expectations for you. The lightening cuts on the slide, 16 ports and coupled with the sculpted grip does give the Q5 a distinctive modernistic appearance.
My better half has a Q5, so I get to clean it every time. It's a nice pistola, but has a couple of strange quirks. First, the optics cannot be co-witnessed with irons. Although DP Pro can include a rear sight, I cannot find a front sight that's tall enough.
Second though... Her unit has some strange scratches in the rifling. I'm not sure they affect anything, but it's definitely weird-looking (see attached).
It makes the trigger pull 1911ish.
Just a fyi...the apex disassembly video does not cover the total disassembly of the pistol.
Any questions, let me know.
Good luck and looking forward to a range report.
I went with the Apex Forward Set Trigger and tuned bar. Installation was straight forward and drop in simple. The Apex trigger doesn't alter pull weight but it does make a big difference reducing pre-travel and reset with a crisp break.
great gun, I got to shoot one, and it was very accurate.
