G19 "unsafe" holster?

I sent a distant friend a couple of outdoor pics of me and my shepherd while hiking. One of the pics shows my g19 in my blackhawk carbon fiber paddle holster, owb, with the index finger retention lock thing (sorry forgot the exact name)

I have used/tried 5 or 6 different brands, iwb, leather, kydex, etc. But the blackhawk just fits my build perfect. I dont even know its there. I have ccw'd with it EVERY day for 6 years after hanging up the 1911. An untucked button down, polo, or sweatshirt and it doesnt even print. It is near impossible to remove without taking off my belt, and has never lost the pistol through rigorous horseback, quadding, and even crashing on my dirtbike.

My friend is heavy into ispc, idpa. He had the gumption to tell me that this holster is going to get me killed! What? He said that for ccw I should not have any retention "gadgets" that could slow/impede my draw, and that the holster should be a simple iwb open leather or kydex.

I have carried every day for over 20 years, either leather thumbsnap in 1911, and currently G19,23 in the blackhawk. I've practiced speed draw's with it so much that my fingerprints are worn off. I live in a free State, and my old friend still lives in CA, he just got his "limited" ccw last year, due to living in a "lucky" County.

So what do the wise say here? Is my choice of holsters more dangerous than my pistol, am I going to die because of a poor holster choice. Or has the State of CA made my old friend a bitter and jealous slave?

I have used one overseas and as a duty holster but my agency banned them as well as FLETC ( we can still use the Serpa TASER holster. I liked the Serpa ( Glock 17) especially mounted on a chest rig working as a medic.
I have gotten over it and can see how
It can be dangerous when Murphy's
Law catches up with you.

Just my opinion, but I have used several Serpa holsters, and still have one. I see no reason that they should be deemed "unsafe." I DO see the need for deeming people who shoot themselves or otherwise cause an unsafe condition while using one "unsafe." It shows a lack of their training and/or self discipline and the same thing would/could happen with any holster they were using. And all these ranges, classes, instructors, and agencies who ban the Serpa holster seem to mostly be feeding into the paranoia or just want to look smarter than the are by banning something that has no real reason to be banned.

No experience with it, but I don't like the design because it positions trigger finger movement around the trigger guard. Using other holster options, the finger can be kept frame high.

I'm sure one can train to use it safely, but it does seem intrinsically a less safe design.

I have to think that one or two of these that perhaps have high numbers of people through them and lots and lots of rounds fired and lots and lots of repeated draw and fire type training may have actually got to their view by simply watching what happens.

Oddly enough I shot a Sig P220 ST thru 2 pistol classes ( about 500 + rounds of 45 acp per class) in a BlackHawk Standard CQC ( It's basically a Serpa, without the "infamous" Serpa Retention lever). It's a fine holster for under $25.00 for a Tactical Shooting class. Lot's of running around rolling in the dirt, shooting under the front and rear bumper of various cars, and trucks, et al. and never lost the rather heavy Sig.

I said oddly enough because when you draw a pistol from this CQC or just about any other holster your trigger finger is in the exact same place as where the retention lever on a Serpa is located. Your just not pressing anything...so maybe therein lies the problem....

I would not use a Serpa nor a CQC Standard for a concealed carry rig ( nor would I use the big Sig P220 for CC either) but I just wanted to note that every thing that Blackhawk makes is not dangerous or junk.....Just saying
