Hey guys quick question, what are your thoughts on 357sig vs 10mm. I'm looking to pick up something full sized and I'm not sure if I want to go Glock 31 or 20. What are your thoughts on ammo price, recoil, and ballistics when it comes to those two rounds? I've kind of ruled out the glock 21 only because I can get more power out the same frame size on a G20. The gun will occasionally be carried also if that makes a difference.

i have both (and a 32 for carry, and maybe a few others...). the 31 is really a great tradeoff in terms of size/caliber/energy/recoil. for open/owb carry, for instance while hiking in bear country, the 20 wouldn't be a bad choice but i'd pick the 31 for pretty much everything else. the 20's frame is a little larger so not quite as easy to hold onto, and with full 10mm loads the recoil may hinder quick and accurate followup shots if needed.

ammo for neither is cheap nor prevalent at local stores, but just use gunbot or ammoseek and load up on the internet.

if you're stuck on a 10mm/.40 diameter bullet, i'd say look at the g22 or 35 and just get some hot SD loads. again a little smaller and easier to handle form factor. not quite the knockdown power, but IMO enough for most SD situations, with less recoil. i'm keeping my g20 because the gun and caliber are cool, but a 40 or 357sig are more practical.

I like 10mm, but mainly for field service in the long-slide G40.

I am most happy with my Gen4 G31 in .357SIG. I've measured Underwood 125gr. JHP ten feet from the muzzle at 1565 ft/s velocity, yielding 680 ft-lbf kinetic energy. Glock's .357SIG barrels have perfect full tight chamber support of the cartridge case, even above the feed ramp, something Glock 10mm barrels do not have.

10mm, G20.
versatile, bigger fast bullet.
reloading makes ammo cost minimal.
load up for the boogie man, down for everyday people.
something about a 180 grain (or heavier) bullet traveling in excess of the speed of sound that spells doom.
even at the bottom of the data for Longshot puts a 180, fired from a G20, at 1325 FPS.
too fast, too much penetration?
Honady 180 XTP at 1180 FPS.
if one of those possibilities is not the answer, there are many possibilities in both directions.
if that doesn't work, call the national guard.

if i wish a .357, my safe is full of them. from snub to five inch barreled revolvers i carried as a young man.

...although the 357SIG is much flatter shooting.
I prefer 357 SIG. Very flat shooting...
Where might the difference come into play? For defense I think it's a non-issue. If I want a flat shooter for distance I'll use a rifle.

I did a lot of reading and headscratching over 357sig vs. 10mm. I landed with 10 and haven't looked back. An extremely versatile cartridge. Great round - covers the 357 sig and ahelluvalot more. Just look at the offerings from Underwood: 8 for 357sig and 18 for 10mm. Recoil matters not - you'll shoot your way into proficiency with either round. Ammo cost - reload. Ballistics - full house 10 takes the cake. So ya' gotta' ask yourself one question...

That is because you're an internet-fudd. They're not wrong, 357sig does not offer much over 40 to justify the extra cost and recoil. There is a reason why Glock and Sig are the only major manufacturers making guns chambered in it.

IMO, kind of hard to go wrong with either. If you decide to start reloading to make shooting either a little more affordable, 10mm will be a little more straight forward for a newcomer. Also, 10mm works pretty well for mild to wild options (even when buying commercial options, there are mild to wild options). With the 357 SIG, it is more wild to wild, not that there is anything wrong with that... ;)

If you are going to carry concealed, the 357 SIG platform will be easier to hide.

"That is because you're an internet-fudd."

Easiest thing in the world, when you can't win an argument is to attack the messenger. Profanity, sexual innuendo and calling people offensive names have no business on a family oriented site.

As I said, attack the messenger if you can't argue the argument. Family oriented or not, there is no screening of visitors and a 10 year old could easily read them. Read the Redditposts==calling someone a "F**", saying "F*** him", etc have no place except on a porn site. What if your pastor (or wife or daughter) was reading that?

Back to the original topic: I have several 9mm, a couple of 40 S & W, a couple of 357 Sigs, and one 10mm. The 40 is my least liked (least accurate in my guns), the 357 is the most accurate, and the 9mm is good for the women in our group. the 10mm is a good woods gun but I prefer my 45 Colt handloads or 454 Casull (we have grizzlies).

Like I said, you're an internet-fudd. reddit is the 24th most visited website in the world; it's like GlockTalk, but for everything. People talk like that because they are free to do so, most subreddits don't have nazi-mods like here on GT.

Even if you're a sheltered, home-schooled nun they are not wrong the 357sig is niche round that Glock only keeps around so they can sell 40 barrels and Sig keeps it to save face

If you have a 10mm you can get a conversion barrel to shoot 357Sig. I like the flat shooting penetration of the 357Sig. Velocity is very consistent and accuracy is excellent. In my Glock 20C 10mm I have 357Sig and 40S&W barrels and can shoot any of the three rounds without changing magazines, slides, or springs. You only need the barrel.

Considering your post, which platform fits you best the 31 or the 20?

If carry is a criteria I would imagine the 31 might be easier to carry. The 20 offers more in weight selection, I've had both and I no longer gravitate to either selection.

I see many consider this a contest of arguement to be won vs the ability to assist. I can only suggest maturity in selecting something that will last you in days of the future.

Girls...girls!!!

I chose a G20 and added a LW .357sig conversion barrel for some added versatility, and it shoots like a dream in either configuration.

In another instance I chose a G21SF frame and added a LW 10mm long slide, with both LW and Alpha Wolf (the latter, threaded) barrels. It too is a sheer pleasure to shoot, eating hollow points like nobody's business from day 1, and accurate as all get out.

In the last instance I chose a G33 as a contender for concealed carry, finding it to be quite accurate and adequate for the task. I also got a G32 length LW barrel for it for just, well, because.

:D

Use it like a pistol. There are plenty of very adequate rounds out there. None of them are magic and none of them are a substitute for training.
Shoot until the threat is stopped. Don't plan on one shot doing the job. Find what you can shoot fast and accurate at the range. Train often and hard because you really shouldn't plan on precision marksmanship if it ever comes down to using it.
357 Sig has sparked my interest of late, but still can't pull the trigger, as it were.
Happy Shopping

I use a G32 or a G33 most times. They're sized like a 9mm, but deliver KE at or above 500 ft lbs. When I qualified with my G32 back-to-back with both the .357 and .40 barrels, the .357 target had a far tighter group (though my scores were identical).

I really like the 10mm Glocks, but find them difficult to conceal. At a time when concealment is not necessary (primarily in the field), I carry a long gun.
