In the market for a 45acp Glock. This will be an occasional CCW. I have narrowed it down to the 30S and the 36. Kinda leaning toward the 36 due to thinking the loaded weight will be a lot less. I would love to hear your thoughts and comments on the two. Thanks.

You can load just 6 rounds in the G30S mag & it will weigh almost exactly the same as the G36. Then, you would have the ability to add 4 more or not.... or use a G21 magazine for even another 3 rounds.

With the G36, 6 rounds in the mag is your only option!

To me the 36 is flatter in profile and more comfortable for all day carry. Carrying a spare mag allows you to distribute the weight of extra ammo better but you need to practice mag changes just as you need to practice shooting to gain and maintain competence with your carry gun.

Most defensive shootings only involve a few shots unless it's the NYPD.

30s so you can then get a 21 and share mags

I haven't commented in a while but I can't miss a chance to bash the 36.

Its size to capacity ratio is a joke when you can carry a 11 or 10 rounds in a 26 or 27.

If you insist on carrying a 45 get the 30S. The fudds can cry you only need 3 rounds according to stats, but if you're going to argue stats you don't need to carry a gun or even own a gun for self defense.

Regardless of G30S or G36, you'll be getting the same identical slide/barrel/RSA. Neither is available in a Gen4 version.

The G30S is likely the most popular .45ACP Glock, while the G36 is likely the least popular .45ACP Glock.

We own and carry both, and find them very well suited to their intended mission. The G36 is a bit more comfortable to carry but the 30S is more versital due to mags interchanging. Neither are particularly pleasant to shoot for extended range sessions, but that is not necessarily their primary purpose. Recommend you try to test drive both before deciding on one.

We trudge on.

I had a 30S and stupidly traded it for another gun I wanted at the time. Because I live in Florida, I can't have a heavier pistol on my belt because of the heat. So I bought a 21 for the range. If I lived in a cooler climate I would be carrying the 30S as my CCP. The 36 is a fine pistol, but I would prefer the extra capacity. In Florida, I carry the 43 with the +3 Taran Tactical pad.

I have both and the 36 sits in the safe. I like it well enough but i like carrying the 30s. The extra capacity is a big reason. My 30s carries really well and is comfortable all day in a crossbreed supertuck
This is my scenario to the "T" right down to the supertuck with the exception of mine is a 30 not a 30S. Capacity or lack there of was important enough to me to banish the 36 to the back of the safe.

I've owned and carried a number of G30s (not the 30S). The most recent was a new Gen 4. Liking the Gen 4 grip and mag release I hoped and waited for a Gen 4 G30S to no avail. I finally acquired a G36 and swapped slides and barrels so I now have a G4 G30S (of my own fabrication - smile).

Finding myself with a G36 frame and a G30 slide and barrel I decided to try them together. What I ended up with was the softest shooting G36 ever. (smile again)

When the smaller butt of the 36 is needed for concealment I carry the G36W (wide). When weather allows heavier cover garments the G4 G30S wins the day.

I have had both, loved both very much, and have never had a single problem with either (except for Underwood 255gr WNFHC occasionally failing to feed - no hiccups...ever...with either one of them, with any other round).

My experience was that both are very fine carry pieces.

By far the G30S makes more sense to me. Neither are what I would consider "pocket" guns. Both require a holster, and with the very minor differences between the 2, if you have to strap on a holster, you may as well carry the G30S.

Along those lines, in reference to primary handguns (as opposed to BUGs) I am simply not comfortable carrying such a low capacity arm such as the G36. Yes, I have read plenty of stats, but there is no guarantee you are going to end up in a statistically average situation.

Also, with added capacity I may not feel the need to reload as quickly and can use that time to figure out an exit strategy, protect another person, hold a door open/close a door, etc, etc.

The ability to use a G21 mag is a pretty major advantage too.

A person could list a bunch of reasons, but I think the point is made.
